Chapter 33 - Chapter 33: Let's get to know each other

At the Beverly Hills Hilton Hotel, backstage at the Golden Globe Awards ceremony, the lively atmosphere created by filmmakers and journalists was incredibly enthusiastic.

"You young people celebrate! We're old and need to go back and rest," Bill Murray and his wife, looking tired, bid farewell to Charles and his group.

The newly crowned Golden Globe Award winner for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy quickly gave interviews to reporters before heading home.

"Charles, Sofia, Scarlett, let's take a picture together," a reporter raised his camera.

Charles then put his arms around Sofia and Scarlett for the reporters to take pictures, seemingly holding a trophy.

Subsequently, Charles's phone rang; it was his mother, Evelyn, calling. Charles quickly went to the garden outside to answer the call.

"Congratulations, Charles! lost in translation received five nominations and won three awards! It's the biggest winner at the Golden Globe Awards tonight!"

"It's alright, the Musical or Comedy categories still can't compare to the Drama categories. the hours also won two major awards," Charles seemed to have stolen the spotlight from Chicago.

"That's enough. I'll celebrate with you when Mom returns to Los Angeles. The director Mom signed here, Zack Snyder, has a script in discussion. You suggested him to Mom, remember?"

"Of course, I remember. Zack Snyder's capabilities are quite good!"

"Hmm, it's a director's contract for a remake of dawn of the dead, currently being processed."

After chatting with his mother for a while, Charles went backstage to get his things and prepare to leave.

"Sofia is being interviewed by reporters," Scarlett said when she saw Charles approach.

"Then let's leave. It seems there's no one left from our crew. Some other crews have left, and some have gone to celebrate."

Scarlett Johansson nodded, then prepared to say goodbye to Sofia.

"Charles, let's go to a bar to celebrate tonight. Aren't you happy today?" Sofia Coppola was still quite excited.

"Alright, you go first. I want to meet a few people first!" Charles wanted to get to know the members of the Hero crew.

Subsequently, Charles found Zhang Yimou, the director of Hero, Ms. Yu, the vice president of New Picture, and producer Bill Kong, who were chatting with others in the banquet hall.

Bill Kong, who specializes in distributing overseas films, quickly recognized Charles. Upon hearing that Charles wanted to meet Zhang Yimou, he quickly made the introduction.

"Ms. Yu, Director Zhang, this is Mr. Charles Capet, the owner of Capet Pictures. lost in translation was produced by him," Bill Kong quickly introduced.

"Hello, Director Zhang!" Charles immediately spoke in fluent Chinese.

Zhang Yimou, who had just shaken hands with Charles, and the other two were all momentarily stunned.

"Hello," Zhang Yimou reacted quickly and said with a smile, "Mr. Capet's Chinese is truly excellent!"

"I prefer Chinese culture, and I specifically learned Chinese! I can communicate in Chinese as fluently as in English."

"I see. lost in translation is the big winner tonight, and Mr. Capet is also young and promising," the vice president, Ms. Yu, also praised.

Charles smiled and asked, "Is Miramax the US distributor for Hero?"

Bill Kong nodded and asked, "Is Mr. Capet interested in Chinese films?"

"I don't have distribution channels yet. I just haven't seen any promotion for Hero in the US. When will this film be released in America?"

Bill Kong shook his head with a wry smile and said, "Miramax bought the North American rights. Participating in the Golden Globe Awards and Oscar was our request. Miramax only casually screened it for a week in two small theaters in Los Angeles, which is how Hero qualified for nomination!"

For Oscar foreign language film nominations, a film needs to have been screened in Los Angeles for at least one week before the previous year, any theater would do.

"No media press conference? The film's main creators didn't do any promotion? Both the Golden Globe Awards and Oscar require promotion. The judges need to at least know about the film. Like the Golden Globe Awards, the judges are the Foreign Press Association, there must be Chinese people among them!"

Charles reminded them, knowing that Chinese films have an obsession with the Oscar, but have never succeeded. If the film quality is not good, there's no way, but if they don't understand the operation methods, they won't win awards either.

Ang Lee, he is an American, just of Chinese descent.

For lost in translation, Charles and Sofia held several press conferences, and some celebrities also helped to speak out.

However, Ms. Yu sighed, "Miramax doesn't take Hero seriously!"

Charles was also helpless. The North American rights for Hero belonged to Miramax. Who else would spend money on promotion besides them?

"The Oscar nominations will be announced around the tenth or eleventh of next month. It shouldn't be too difficult for Hero to be nominated for Best Foreign Language Film," Charles said, pondering with some hesitation.

"Moreover, the Spanish film Talk to Her, which just won the Golden Globe Award for Best Foreign Language Film, did not register for the Oscar's Best Foreign Language Film award!"

"So, Hero might still have a chance, right?" Bill Kong reacted, after all, Talk to Her was a strong contender.

The information Charles revealed actually had little substantive effect, as such matters are easy to find out, even if they waited until the tenth of next month, they would know.

The Oscar ceremony is in late March!

"If the distributor doesn't take it seriously, there's nothing that can be done!" Zhang Yimou saw it very clearly.
