Chapter 32 - Chapter 32: The Golden Globe Award (Part 2)

At 5 PM, the 60th Golden Globe Awards officially began.

Charles's seat was arranged with the "lost in translation" crew, including Sofia Coppola, Scarlett Johansson, and Bill Murray and his wife.

Of course, at the Golden Globe Awards, the main focus was on films, as the authoritative awards ceremony for television categories is the Emmy Awards.

Not long after it began, the Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress in the film categories were awarded, with both winners, Chris Cooper and Meryl Streep, from the film "Adaptation"!

Subsequently, many television awards were presented, interspersed with some non-acting film awards.

"lost in translation's" first award was for Best Screenplay in the film category, which, of course, went to Sofia Coppola.

The Golden Globe Awards' Best Screenplay is divided into film and television categories, unlike the Oscar, which has Best Original Screenplay and Best Adapted Screenplay.

Of course, the biggest difference is that the Oscar also does not divide the three major awards for best picture, Best Actor, and Best Actress into Drama and Musical or Comedy categories.

After more than half of the awards had been presented, the competition for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy film began, with the strongest contenders being Bill Murray from "lost in translation" and Richard Gere from "Chicago."

The presenter was Sharon Stone. Charles was thinking that with "lost in translation" released earlier, it was now up against "Chicago," and he wondered if it could win any awards.

"Oh!" Sofia and Scarlett suddenly exclaimed from beside him.

Bill Murray won Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy. Charles also quickly stood up to congratulate the winner.

Charles was definitely happy that Richard didn't win.

In the subsequent competition for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy, Scarlett Johansson and Nia Vardalos both lost to Renée Zellweger, the actress playing the lead role in "Chicago."

Afterward, Best Foreign Language Film was presented. Charles heard the nominated Chinese film "Hero," but unfortunately, the winner was the Spanish film "Talk to Her."

Charles's seat was in the front-middle. He turned his head to look behind him. The "Hero" crew must have been in that area, but there were too many people to see.

He thought to himself that he could go meet them after the awards ceremony ended.

Towards the end of the ceremony, increasingly prestigious awards were presented. The winner for Best Actor in a Drama was the veteran actor Jack Nicholson for "About Schmidt";

Best Actress in a Drama went to Nicole Kidman for "the hours."

Charles watched Nicole Kidman go up on stage. Indeed, Nicole Kidman was radiant now. Last year, she had just won Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy for "moulin rouge!", and this year it was for a Drama.

"Finally, it's the three big awards: best director, and best picture for Drama and Musical or Comedy," Scarlett said, grabbing Charles's arm.

"Don't be nervous. Look at Sofia, isn't she just looking calm and collected?" Charles said, looking at Sofia Coppola on his other side.

"God, I'm nervous too!" Sofia laughed and complained when she heard him.

This made Bill Murray laugh and say, "Sofia, you have to have confidence!"

best director had no categories and was presented by Harrison Ford, who read out the nominees:

Spike Jonze for "Adaptation";

Martin Scorsese for "gangs of new york";

Peter Jackson for "the lord of the rings: The Two Towers";

Rob Marshall for "Chicago";

Sofia Coppola for "lost in translation";

Stephen Daldry for "the hours."

Harrison Ford then loudly announced: "gangs of new york," Martin Scorsese.

Regardless, everyone applauded and congratulated the veteran director!

Subsequently, actors Nicolas Cage and Jennifer Connelly presented the best picture – Musical or Comedy award.

The nominees were:

"lost in translation"

"Chicago"

"my big fat greek wedding"

"Adaptation"

"About a Boy"

"Jennifer, haven't you noticed? It seems that the competition between 'Chicago' and 'lost in translation' is particularly fierce tonight, from Best Actor and Actress to best picture!" Nicolas laughed.

"That's right, the Best Actor and Actress in the Musical or Comedy categories each took one before. Let's see who wins this one!"

Nicolas Cage smiled, glanced at the winner in his hand again, and shouted:

"lost in translation!"

"Wow!" Scarlett Johansson suddenly hugged Charles.

"best picture – Musical or Comedy!"

Charles straightened his clothes, first kissed Scarlett Johansson, then hugged Sofia.

"Let's go together!" Charles took Sofia's hand and left their seats, accepting congratulations and expressing thanks.

The host also introduced Charles Capet, the producer of "lost in translation," and also one of the producers of "my big fat greek wedding," a 21-year-old young film producer.

In the front row, he also hugged Tom Hanks and his wife.

"Well done, kid!" These were Tom Hanks's words.

"Charles, keep up the good work!" These were Mrs. Hanks Rita Wilson's words.

"Thank you, thank you!"

When passing by Nicole Kidman, Nicole also stood up and applauded, hugging Charles to congratulate him, and praised him, saying, "Charles, that's amazing, you've only developed two films, right!"

"Ah, thank you!"
