"what happened?" Alex looked at Larry worriedly as he asked Nathan. His voice was tight, too high, like he was trying not to sound scared and failing.
"He looks exhausted." Nathan replied. He walked to where Larry lay to examine him.
Nathan's long fingers were careful on Larry's wrist, he closed his eyes, counting a pulse that felt too slow. The room went quiet except for the faint hiss of the air purifier in the corner. Nathan's jaw clenched. "The pulse is weak, breathing's shallow. Too much use of energy." he said as he opened his eyes. His gaze lingered on Larry's pale face for half a second longer than necessary, like he was confirming something he already knew but didn't want to admit.
