Ava's Pov
The thought of my mum didn't leave.
It stayed somewhere in the back of my mind, and the more effort I put into ignoring it…the more it hit me.
I found myself checking my phone from time to time…even putting it on ringer, just in case. Even though part of me wasn't going to answer.
She didn't call.
And for some reason, that hurt more. It made me feel like I had lost a chance.
By the time evening came, I was tired of going in circles in my own head. I needed to talk about it, even if I wasn't ready to do anything about it yet.
So I waited for Leon.
I heard his car before I saw him.
The door opened a few seconds later.
He stepped in, loosening his tie slightly, his eyes scanning the room until they landed on me.
"There you are," he said.
I smiled a little. "Where else would I be?"
He walked over without saying anything else and sat beside me, close enough that our shoulders touched.
"How was your day?" he asked.
"It was okay."
