Chapter 63
Monsters were within 100 meters.
But the trap laid here was more complex and needed some time to activate.
And to make matters worse, some suspected intelligent species were also mixed in.
The rat monster had turned to ashes completely.
Doris looked at the incoming wave and shouted, "Retreat!"
Mages shot up into the air all around.
Vivian and the knights had been pulled up onto the wall beforehand.
A large magic circle activated, and wind magic carried all the mages toward the back of town.
Boooooooooooooooooooooom!
A few seconds later, the wave crashed into the town wall.
The makeshift portion built during the day collapsed immediately, and monsters rushed into town.
A second later, an explosion went off outside the wall.
The trap had activated. The result was astonishing as a hole had been blown into the middle of the monster army.
The time taken was worth the shot.
The monsters still didn't give up and rushed into town, tearing apart anything that came into their way.
The buildings and streets, which had been bustling with activity just yesterday, were now crumbling and turning to rubble.
Monsters were rampaging throughout the whole town.
The mages had retreated far away.
The reinforcement force didn't let up the chance and continued cutting off the numbers from behind.
A person shot up from a distance into the air by the time the monsters had filled the town completely.
Doris got into the air as well.
A double-layered spell was activated.
The whole ground burst, and lava arrows pierced monsters. In the sky, lightning flashed, and thundering clouds gave no break to the monsters.
Both were large-scale spells and needed a lot of mana and sufficient time to activate.
Doris had already discussed this with the other person.
Zaviar descended beside Doris.
The spell covered the whole town, and they had spent two hours completing it beforehand.
Zaviar had deployed magic crystals to come over beforehand and returned to the backlines after the spell was completed.
Boooooooom!
Boooooooom!
The earth had craters forming, and the whole town became Armageddon.
And it went on for a full ten minutes.
After the spell's effect started waning and the view cleared, not even corpses were left intact.
It had cost Doris a lot of magic crystals, but it was still worth the expenditure as the monsters' numbers continued getting low.
Alongside the corpses, the town's buildings had collapsed as well, causing collateral damage and burying monsters under them.
Zewwwwwwwww!
A rain of icicles descended on the mages as soon as the explosion ended.
The mages had cast shields almost instantly, deflecting them.
An intelligent monster came into view from behind a collapsed building.
It was a large, snake-like monster with limbs supporting the body.
Half of its body was buried under the rubble, and it couldn't move, but it still cast a spell, trying to get even with the mages for its misfortune.
But the mages didn't give it any chance.
They made quick work of the monster and started to look for any surviving corpses.
The knights also resumed their charge, continuing to get rid of the last cinders coming inside the town.
Tap.
A female mage gently landed on the ground.
Crack.
Stone spears were seen all around in the distance, taking care of monsters still outside the boundary.
Serbian came into view.
Reinforcements had arrived.
The female mage looked at the scene in front.
Zaviar bowed respectfully.
Doris gave a greeting. "Master."
She nodded her head. "You have grown strong since last time."
Doris bowed deeply. "I am unworthy of praise."
She didn't say anything further and tapped lightly to the ground.
A large circle appeared, covering the whole town and the outside boundary, covering a full kilometer area.
Blue fire started spitting out from the circle and began burning corpses and remains.
Monster bodies completely turned to ashes. A gentle breeze blew, and the ashes started gathering into one place.
Doris's eyes opened wide.
He looked at her with clear surprise.
Helen smiled lightly.
She was forty-five years old but still looked ten years younger than her age.
The Magic Tower had shown considerable support by sending her, as she was one of the highly sought-after masters in the Tower.
Students taught by her were spread throughout the Knight Brigade and the Tower.
But he didn't know the Tower had mastered burning monster corpses completely.
If they had known this before, why didn't they make it public?
No, no — it only meant that it was a recent development.
But still, it was amazing that they had achieved this.
But how?
Thought were churning inside Doris's mind at incredible speed.
Serbian had reached them.
He gathered mana and started burning the ashes completely.
Helen smiled lightly and asked Doris, "No need to be so surprised. I learned on the way that Sir Serbian has successfully completed a new mana command spell. So we chatted a bit, and I improved my own spell. So what do you think?"
Her smile was still as childish as a teenage girl's who was up to some mischief.
Doris sighed. Well, nothing less could be expected from Master. She is a rare species after all.
Serbian only gave a simple greeting, and the rest of the people got busy with clearing the aftermath.
"So where is that child, Ryan?" she asked curiously.
Doris replied, "He is behind the safety line with the mages. He got injured previously, so we only used him as support this time."
"Mmmm." She nodded her head. "And that child is Azek Willowheart?"
She gestured toward the mages' safety area. A young man stood there in deep thought.
Doris looked behind and replied, "That's correct."
Before he could continue further, Helen had already left them and went toward Azek.
Azek was standing in deep thought when someone tapped his shoulder.
He got startled and looked behind.
Layana was standing there.
