Chapter 8 - The Fall and the Capture

The bridge trembled under the weight of engines and fear.

Nova slammed the brakes.

"Road's blocked!" she shouted.

Ahead, black SUVs formed a wall.

Behind them, more vehicles closed in like predators.

"We're trapped," Mara whispered.

Aaron looked left—river below.

Right—no escape.

Then he made a decision.

"Everyone out," he said.

"What?" Eliza snapped.

"Trust me."

Gunmen stepped out of the SUVs, weapons raised.

"DROP YOUR WEAPONS!" one of them yelled.

Aaron leaned close to Eliza.

"No matter what happens… don't fight them."

Her eyes widened. "What are you planning?"

"Survival."

The Choice

They stepped out slowly.

Hands up.

Rain began again—as if the sky couldn't stay out of their war.

A man in a black suit walked forward.

Calm. Controlled.

Deadly.

Victor Hale.

For the first time—

Eliza saw him in person.

"You've caused quite a storm," Victor said, almost amused.

Eliza's fists tightened. "You destroyed lives."

Victor tilted his head. "And yet here you are. Alive. Interesting."

Aaron stepped forward. "Let them go."

Victor smiled faintly. "Still playing hero."

"I'm not asking," Aaron said.

"You're not in a position to ask," Victor replied.

The Betrayal

Suddenly—

A gun clicked behind Aaron's head.

Everyone froze.

Nova.

Holding the gun.

Eliza's world shattered.

"N… Nova?" she whispered.

Nova didn't meet her eyes.

"I'm sorry," she said.

Aaron's voice went cold. "How much did he pay you?"

Nova whispered, "Enough to save someone I love."

Victor clapped slowly. "Loyalty is always negotiable."

Eliza felt like she couldn't breathe.

"You betrayed us," she said.

Nova's eyes filled—but she didn't lower the gun.

The Trade

Victor stepped closer.

"I only want one thing," he said.

"Eliza."

Aaron moved instantly.

"No."

Victor raised a hand.

Guns pointed at Mara. At Lillian.

"At them," Victor said calmly.

Eliza's heart broke.

"If I go," she said quietly, "you let them live?"

Victor smiled. "I am a man of my word… when it suits me."

Aaron grabbed her arm. "Don't."

She looked at him.

Tears in her eyes—but strength in her voice.

"If I don't, they die."

He shook his head. "We'll find another way."

"There is no other way."

She stepped forward.

Aaron's grip tightened.

"Please," he said softly.

She leaned in and whispered:

"Trust me."

Then she pulled away.

And walked toward Victor Hale.

The Separation

Two guards grabbed her.

Aaron struggled—but Nova kept the gun steady.

"I'll find you," he said, his voice breaking.

Eliza smiled faintly.

"I know."

The SUV door slammed shut.

And she was gone.

Aftermath

Silence remained on the bridge.

Aaron dropped to his knees.

For the first time—

He looked broken.

Mara whispered, "We'll get her back."

Aaron stood slowly.

"No," he said.

"We won't get her back."

His eyes turned cold.

"We're going to tear his entire world apart."

Nova lowered the gun.

"I didn't have a choice," she said.

Aaron looked at her.

"You always have a choice."

Inside the Cage

Eliza sat inside a moving car.

Hands tied.

Heart racing—but mind calm.

Victor sat across from her.

"You're smarter than I expected," he said.

"You're weaker than I expected," she replied.

He smiled. "Bold."

"You need me alive," she said. "That's your weakness."

Victor leaned forward.

"No," he whispered.

"You are my message."

The Twist

Eliza slowly moved her fingers.

Hidden inside her sleeve—

The pendant.

The microchip.

Still safe.

She looked at Victor.

And smiled.

"You just made the biggest mistake of your life."
