Chapter 78 - Chapter 78 - The weight of suspicion

The Red Moon Pack mansion hummed with quiet tension. The day after Lucifer and Veronica's arrival, Hazel could feel the weight of their scrutiny pressing on her from every corner. The modernized pack grounds, usually vibrant with energy, felt heavier, almost suffocating.

Hazel had never felt eyes on her like this—not from rogues, not from enemies, not even from Mila lurking in the shadows. But Lucifer's presence was different. It was sharp, analytical, and dangerous.

Ryan stayed by her side, his dark aura flaring subtly, Ralph, Blade, and Venom responding to her tension. Every step Hazel took, every subtle movement, he mirrored—ready to protect, dominate, and claim.

"You're tense," Ryan murmured, brushing a strand of hair from her face. His gaze softened for a fleeting moment. "Ignore them. Focus on us."

Hazel took a deep breath, grounding herself. "I can't. His father… he's… different."

Ryan smirked, though his eyes stayed sharp. "Let him watch. He'll see what I see. And no witch, no rogue, no outsider… will ever take you from me."

Inside the mansion, Lucifer moved silently, probing Hazel's aura with subtle precision. He sensed her Devourer energy intertwining with her Luna spirit, a balance he had never witnessed before. Her power was raw, untamed yet controlled.

But Mila was already at work, whispering just enough to cloud Lucifer's judgment. "Be careful," she murmured as she passed him, feigning concern. "She's strong… but is she truly ready to bear the weight of prophecy? Sometimes strength is not enough."

Lucifer's eyes narrowed, a shadow of doubt creeping in. He could feel Hazel's strength, undeniable and ancient, yet Mila's suggestion planted hesitation.

Meanwhile, Hazel walked the mansion corridors with Ryan, her aura subtly glowing. "I can feel it," she whispered, "his suspicion. He's trying to see inside me… figure out why I'm here, why Ryan trusts me."

Ryan's hand brushed hers, and he leaned close. "Let him try. You're mine, Hazel. Power, prophecy, everything—it doesn't matter. Nothing can touch what we have."

Hazel felt warmth spread through her chest. Despite Lucifer's scrutiny, despite Mila's whispers, Ryan's presence grounded her, tethered her, and made her feel invincible.

Later, Veronica joined Hazel privately, observing her calm composure. "You are stronger than even Ryan realizes," she said softly. "And the prophecy… it is true. The Eclipse Heir is connected to you."

Hazel's eyes widened. "The prophecy…? So I really am… the one?"

Veronica nodded. "Yes. But strength alone will not secure your place. You must show mastery—over yourself, your powers, and those who would question you."

That night, as Hazel returned to her room, Mila appeared again, leaning casually against the doorway. "You've done well," she said sweetly, but her eyes glittered with cunning. "But not everyone will accept you, Hazel. Even those who claim to care… can be swayed."

Hazel stared at her, her Luna aura flaring slightly. "I'm done fearing you, Mila. You can whisper, you can scheme—but you will never control me. Not now, not ever."

Mila's smile widened, venomous in its subtlety. "We'll see, my dear. We'll see."

Ryan appeared behind Hazel, dark and protective, pressing close. "You heard her," he murmured, lips brushing her ear. "You belong to me. My mate. My Luna. My Eclipse Heir. And I will kill anyone who thinks otherwise."

Hazel shivered, a mix of fear, longing, and excitement. She turned, wrapping her arms around Ryan's waist, her Devourer energy pulsing in sync with his. "Then let them try," she whispered.

Together, they stood as one, ready to face Lucifer's scrutiny, Mila's schemes, and any challenge the prophecy demanded.

The tension in the mansion was far from over—but Hazel had found her anchor in Ryan. And nothing, no power, no prophecy, no manipulation, could break that.
