"It happens. It's not entirely your fault that you saw what she wanted you to see." I shrugged.
So, Martin was upset with me because my very existence reminded him of his own failures.
Since I already experienced something similar with Caius and Alpha Rufus, I was unfazed.
"Lots of people didn't know Yvette's true nature, but now with your testimony, she won't get the chance to hurt more people like me," I said. "I consider us even."
"We'd never be even," Martin exclaimed, his face twitching with irritation. "I owe you a life debt!"
"I'm not expecting you to die for me, if that's what you're worried about. Make me your mother's food for a lifetime, and I consider it cleared," I said, partly in jest, only to be surprised when Martin's entire face turned red.
"...You want to eat my cooking for a lifetime?" he asked, his voice sounding embarrassingly high.
