[CAIUS POV, BEFORE THE WEDDING]
I stared at my own reflection and tried to muster up some excitement for my own wedding. I was going to stand at the altar soon, and I had to look like a capable alpha. In just a few minutes, I would have Yvette as my Luna. In a week, Iris would be sent to Stonebreak, and we would never need to see each other except at inter-pack festivals.
I would not be the freak of nature who had a half-sister for a mate. Out of sight, out of mind. I repeated this mantra to myself as I tied and re-tied my tie for the umpteenth time. I stared at my face in the mirror, trying to make myself look happy.
I was happy, wasn't I?
This was what I've wanted from the very beginning.
My reflection didn't look like a happy man. Somehow, I looked more like a man on death row.
"Stop fidgeting," my father ordered. "You're a man now. One that's soon about to become an Alpha. It is unbecoming of you to twitch like an omega."
