[IRIS POV]
Heat. That was a pleasant way to describe the incineration of my insides. I let out a soft hum of agreement before pressing my clenched fist against his.
"Take…" I barely managed to wheeze the word out, my voice so breathy that it could barely be heard.
"What are you holding?" he whispered in my ear as he tried to pry my fingers apart. "It's… It's your necklace! Did she take it from you this morning? Was that why you chose to leave with her?"
I nodded weakly, mouthing another sorry.
"No, it is I who should be sorry." Healer Felix was practically vibrating with rage, but his eyes were full of apologetic grief. "I failed to ensure your safety in a place where you should be safe and focused on healing."
I let out a weak laugh. This was Ashbourne. Nowhere in this pack was safe for me. This wasn't his problem to solve.
