"What time is it?" Seeing Miles Sherman pick up his Intelligent Brain for a look, Zoe Pierce couldn't help but ask with a yawn.
Miles Sherman said, "It's still early. Seven o'clock."
Zoe Pierce hadn't gone to sleep until almost two in the morning, so her waking up this early was a surprise to him.
The windows, which had a special coating, could be set to adjust the refraction of light. In sleep mode, the room was pitch black, making it impossible to perceive the time.
Hearing she had only slept for five hours, Zoe Pierce slowly lay back down. She was still very sleepy.
'But I thought I'd have a headache,' she mused, 'considering how much I drank.'
In reality, however, she felt fine.
Lying in bed, she looked at Miles Sherman, who was sitting up, and asked, "Where is everyone?"
Miles Sherman lay back down as well, facing her. "I locked them out."
'Really?'
'Miles would actually do something like that?'
She blinked, glancing at the door. It was, indeed, closed.
