The moment Phoebe Sawyer came downstairs, she was greeted by the rich aroma of meat.
"It smells so good." Following the scent to the kitchen, she saw Wendy Lowe standing at the stove in an apron. "Mommy, why are you up so early cooking?"
"Oh, Phoebe, you're up. Mommy's been simmering some beef brisket." Wendy Lowe looked back at her, smiling brightly. "How about a bowl of beef brisket noodles for breakfast?"
"Okay!" Phoebe Sawyer nodded, her tone sweet and a little playful. "I love anything you cook, Mommy."
Wendy Lowe gave her a doting look and asked with a chuckle, "Have you washed up yet?"
"All done."
"Good. I'll get the noodles started then. Go on and have a seat."
Phoebe Sawyer sat down at the dining table, watching Wendy Lowe's busy back from across the kitchen island.
A small smile played on her lips, and she felt increasingly glad she had returned to the country.
'It's so wonderful that Mommy is doing so well now.'
