Vincent Hawthorne took Faye Vaughn's phone and put it back in her purse. "It's just a shirt. I'll pay my brother back for you."
Faye Vaughn asked hesitantly, "Is that appropriate? Won't your brother think I'm being rude?"
Vincent Hawthorne narrowed his eyes slightly, probing her without a change in expression. "Are you afraid my brother will get a bad impression of you?"
Faye Vaughn nodded. "Yes."
An icy feeling swept through Vincent Hawthorne, and his face fell without him realizing it.
