BWDC:SDDK Chapter 108: The Batsuit

At Professor Agasa's Research Institute.

Right now, Professor Agasa was sitting on the sofa, grinning like a fool.

It was exactly the kind of good news he had mentioned to Ren Ichimonji before.

With the help of that Mr. Jack, Professor Agasa had "accidentally" run into Fusae on the street. As they talked about their recent lives, both were surprised to find that, at their age, neither of them had married yet.

The sense of estrangement from not seeing each other for many years vanished instantly. After learning about each other's situations, the ice was successfully broken.

Fusae even asked him indirectly if he still remembered that ten-year promise and the specific location.

He had hurriedly expressed that he remembered everything. They then exchanged online contact information and agreed to meet up whenever they were free. In his eyes, the situation was looking great and progressing quite smoothly.

He had to admit, Jack was a truly reliable person!

Creak.

The door to Professor Agasa's institute was pushed open.

Ren Ichimonji walked into the hall carrying his backpack, his gaze landing on Professor Agasa, who was still grinning so hard he didn't even notice Ren's arrival.

For a moment, a hint of confusion appeared in Ren's eyes.

What happened to make him this happy?

But then, remembering Professor Agasa's mention two nights ago that Jack would help set up a chance encounter yesterday—and the fact that Agasa was nowhere to be seen all day yesterday—a flash of realization crossed Ren's eyes.

It looked like things had either worked out or made significant progress.

However, as for Professor Agasa's claim that Jack helped manufacture the encounter, Ren had his doubts about whether Fusae was in the dark. Perhaps Ms. Fusae was just playing along, using the "chance meeting" as a way to break the ice?

Ren didn't bring up the topic.

The matter between Professor Agasa and Fusae was something they should handle themselves.

Ren had already lent a hand previously, and his understanding of the details only went so far. There wasn't much more he could do to help even if he wanted to. So, he just sat down nearby and stared at Professor Agasa.

Once Agasa finally finished laughing, Ren finally spoke.

"Professor Agasa, how is the construction of the Batsuit coming along?"

Ren had been sitting there for quite a while.

Yet, Professor Agasa hadn't noticed Ren's presence at all, to the point where he was startled by the voice. For an agile stout man, he nearly leaped off the sofa like a human rocket.

However, after seeing that the speaker was Ren, Agasa breathed a sigh of relief.

---If it had been anyone else appearing beside him and speaking so silently, Professor Agasa might have felt surprised or even frightened.

But with Ren, it was different. Ren had been like this since the day they met. Moreover, he was Batman; it was only natural for him to exhibit these specific "biological traits" unique to Batman.

To this, Professor Agasa immediately replied:

"Of course! In fact, it was finished last night."

"I just did a few minor modifications this morning. It's now ready for official combat. Come, let me show you what this Batsuit I've made can do."

Professor Agasa stood up.

He led Ren toward the research and development room.

The Phantom Thief Kid gadgets that Ren had seen in the room before had vanished without a trace.

Most likely, after Ren returned to his apartment last night, Konosuke Jii had come by to pick up the goods to ensure no mistakes were made in the upcoming operation, taking every useful Kid gadget with him.

However, Ren's attention wasn't on the empty spaces where the gadgets used to be.

His gaze was fixed on the Batsuit displayed on a clothes rack.

Compared to a conventional superhero's spandex suit, this Batsuit had an appearance that leaned more toward the texture of armor. The arms, shoulder pads, and legs were all equipped with a second layer of protective plating.

According to Professor Agasa's previous description, the entire suit was made of bulletproof fibers.

It could significantly dampen the kinetic energy of bullets to reduce damage, while the secondary armor zones could stop bullets outright, leaving the rounds embedded in the armor with only surface wear.

And that wasn't the only feature of this Batsuit.

"As you mentioned to me before."

"The interior of this suit is installed with an electrical stimulation network, similar to the one in Shinichi's shoes. The activation switch is located near the lower part of your palm. Once you press it, the stimulation network activates."

"It will heavily stimulate your muscles, allowing you to unleash physical strength several times beyond your normal capacity."

Professor Agasa stood with his hands behind his back, looking at the Batsuit.

Though his short, stout frame hadn't changed, he somehow gave off an air of profound mystery.

This dark horse of the R&D world in the "Conan-verse" said solemnly:

"Once you press the switch a second time, the electrical network will cut off. After it stops, you will feel a brief sensation of numbness in your body, but you'll recover within a few seconds at most."

"However, I must warn you: this electrical network is very taxing on the body."

"Under normal circumstances, it shouldn't be active for more than thirty seconds at a time. Exceeding thirty seconds will put a massive burden on your heart and muscles. The subsequent weakness will increase exponentially once it's over."

"And then..."

Professor Agasa placed his hand on the somewhat unusual Bat emblem on the chest.

This emblem was quite strange compared to a normal Batsuit—almost bizarre.

Because it wasn't just a symbol for Batman; it was also a weapon.

An unsharpened double-sided axe. One simply needed to use a handle to plug into the notch below the Bat emblem and rotate it to lock it into place. The internal magnetic device would then perfectly fuse the emblem with the handle.

This turned the Bat emblem into a terrifying, blunt-edged Bat-Axe.

It was similar to the axe from Absolute Batman, though the one on Ren's suit looked even more intimidating, even if its lethality was relatively lower.

"Aside from that, I have one more little clever design."

Ren looked up at Professor Agasa.

At that moment, Professor Agasa performed a public display of "Conan-tech" compression.

He actually pressed a button right in front of Ren, and the entire Batsuit instantly began to fold itself. The suit portion retracted completely behind the solid Bat emblem, making the entire Batsuit small enough to fit inside a standard office briefcase.

---This meant the suit was now officially portable.

What? Ren doesn't carry a briefcase? Why call it portable?

That's not a problem at all. I'll just use five of my extra points to exchange for a briefcase in the system shop and pack it in. I can take it out and use it whenever I want!

"It's more than good enough."

Ren looked at the Batsuit and spoke in a low voice.
