Chapter 30 - Chapter 29: The First Hunt.

The Nakano safehouse had become a fortress of quiet routine in the weeks following Fuji.

No more purple mist. No more whispers. Just training, planning, and waiting for the next storm.

Haruto stood in the small courtyard behind the building, shirtless, sweat glistening under the afternoon sun. Chains coiled around his arms like living tattoos—black with faint crimson edges. He moved through forms: slow at first, then faster, each motion precise and devastating. The chains lashed out, cracked against invisible enemies, retracted.

Miya watched from the doorway, sword resting on her shoulder.

"You've changed," she said quietly.

Haruto paused mid-swing. Chains retracted smoothly.

"How so?"

"Your movements. They're… lighter. Less rage. More control."

He lowered his arms.

"The mark is gone. The anger that fueled it… isn't."

Yuki stepped out behind her, towel around his neck, ice still faintly frosting his hair from morning training.

"Doesn't mean you're soft now."

Haruto smirked.

"Try me."

Yuki grinned.

"Thought you'd never ask."

They squared off.

No full power. No killing intent. Just sparring—testing limits.

Yuki struck first—ice spear forming in his hand, thrown with pinpoint accuracy.

Haruto sidestepped—chains snapping up to deflect the spear mid-air.

Ice shattered.

Haruto countered—Judgment Blade crescent, gold-black, slicing toward Yuki.

Yuki dissolved into Water Body—intangibility kicking in. The crescent passed through harmlessly.

He reformed behind Haruto—Cryogenic Freezing wave surging.

Haruto spun.

**[Aura Fear Lv.4.]**

Crimson-black pressure rolled out—gentle, controlled.

Yuki staggered—just a fraction—but enough.

Haruto closed the distance.

Fist met ice gauntlet.

Crack.

Yuki slid back, grinning.

"Not bad."

Miya laughed softly.

"You two are impossible."

The spar ended as quickly as it began—no winner, just mutual respect.

They sat on the courtyard steps afterward, breathing hard.

Haruto spoke first.

"Ren's offer still stands. The off-books division. We lead. They support."

Miya wiped sweat from her brow.

"We'd have resources. Intel. Backup when needed."

Yuki leaned back on his elbows.

"But no chains. No politics. We call the shots."

Haruto looked at the sky.

"We take it. But on our terms. No missions we don't choose. No politics. No sacrifices."

Miya nodded.

"Agreed."

Yuki smirked.

"Then let's make it official."

Haruto pulled out his phone—Ren's encrypted line.

He sent one message:

*We accept. Terms as discussed. First target?*

The reply came almost instantly.

*Osaka. Underground black market hub. Rumors of a corrupted S-rank hunter selling forbidden Aether artifacts. Artifacts linked to residual Nox essence. Neutralize. Recover. No witnesses.*

Haruto looked at them.

"First hunt."

Miya stood.

"I'll prep gear."

Yuki cracked his knuckles.

"I'll handle transport."

Haruto rose last.

The sun dipped lower.

The city waited.

They had ended one apocalypse.

Now they hunted the remnants.

And whatever came next.

Osaka was 2 hours by shinkansen.

They left at dusk.

The Sovereign Guardian and his team moved into the shadows once more.

But this time… they moved as one.
