Chapter 24 - Chapter 23: The Guild’s Summons

The safehouse in Nakano had become their unofficial headquarters. Maps covered one wall—red pins marking collapsed anchors, blue pins for remaining rifts, yellow for high-risk Gates. Haruto sat cross-legged on the floor, eyes closed, meditating. The Mark of the Sovereign glowed softly on his palm, golden lines pulsing in slow rhythm.

Miya entered carrying takeout—ramen and onigiri from a nearby konbini. Yuki followed, scrolling through encrypted Guild feeds on his phone.

"Still nothing from Ren," Yuki said, tossing the device onto the couch. "But the silence is loud. They're watching us closer than ever."

Miya set the food down.

"Tokyo Tower cleanup is done. Official story: natural Gate collapse. No mention of us. But rumors are spreading—'the unregistered trio that erased four anchors.' Hunters are asking questions."

Haruto opened his eyes.

"Let them ask."

He stood, stretching.

The past three days had been quiet—too quiet. No new forced Gates. No echoes. No green glow from Joker. But the System kept warning:

**[Residual Nox Essence – 2% remaining. Dormant. Awakening probability increasing: 12% → 19% in last 24 hours.]**

Haruto looked at the map.

"Something's coming. The last 35% of the network is consolidating. One big rift. One final anchor."

Miya nodded.

"Ren just sent coordinates. Off-record. He wants a meeting. Tonight. Guild HQ rooftop. He says it's urgent—and he's coming alone."

Yuki snorted.

"Trap?"

Haruto shook his head.

"No. Opportunity."

He grabbed his coat.

"We go. All three of us."

They arrived at the Guild HQ under cover of darkness. The building looked like any corporate tower—glass, steel, no signage. But the rooftop access was guarded by invisible Aether wards.

Haruto's chains snapped them silently.

Ren Ao waited alone, leaning against the railing, purple eyes reflecting city lights. No guards. No weapons visible.

"You came," he said.

Haruto stopped ten meters away.

"You summoned."

Ren glanced at Miya and Yuki, then back to Haruto.

"Four anchors destroyed. Global Gate stability up 65%. Anomalies dropping. The higher-ups are… uncomfortable. They want to know who—or what—you are."

Haruto's voice was calm.

"You already know."

Ren smiled thinly.

"I know enough. Divine mark. Purge legacy. A System that breaks Aether rules. And you chose Guardian."

He stepped forward.

"The Guild wants to recruit you. Officially. S-rank probation. Full resources. Protection."

Yuki laughed once.

"They want control."

Ren ignored him, eyes on Haruto.

"They want stability. And you're the biggest variable in the equation."

Haruto looked out at the city.

"I don't join organizations. I don't take orders."

Ren nodded slowly.

"I figured. But there's something else."

He pulled out a small black device—encrypted projector.

A hologram flickered.

A new rift signature—massive, hidden deep under Mount Fuji. Energy reading off the charts.

"The last anchor. Or what's left of the network. It's awakening. Fast. If it fully manifests…"

Haruto finished.

"Nox returns. Full power. This world ends."

Ren shut off the hologram.

"The Guild can't handle it. Not without you."

He met Haruto's gaze.

"I'm not asking you to join. I'm asking you to lead the raid. We provide support—S-ranks, gear, intel. You bring your… unique touch."

Miya stepped forward.

"Why trust us now?"

Ren looked at her.

"Because you already did what no one else could. Four anchors. No casualties. No collateral. That's not luck. That's proof."

Yuki crossed his arms.

"And if we say no?"

Ren shrugged.

"Then we try alone. And fail."

Haruto stared at Mount Fuji in the distance—dark silhouette against the night.

He looked at Miya and Yuki.

They nodded—once.

Haruto turned back to Ren.

"We lead. You follow. No chains. No trackers. No politics."

Ren extended his hand.

"Deal."

Haruto shook it—firm.

Ren smiled—rare, genuine.

"Mount Fuji. 72 hours. We'll have a strike team ready. But the core… that's yours."

He turned to leave.

One last word over his shoulder.

"Don't die before we get there."

The rooftop door closed.

Haruto looked at his team.

Miya smiled—sharp.

"Mount Fuji. Fitting end."

Yuki cracked his neck.

"Time to bury a god."

Haruto's eyes glowed faintly.

The Mark of the Sovereign pulsed—once.

Guardian.

Not Sovereign.

But ready.

The final rift waited.

And the trio walked toward it.
