Chapter 2 - Unique Class

[Yin Yuca's Perspective]

***

After a few more minutes of talking, I got acquainted with everyone on the same team and went with the group to head over to the police station. The police station wasn't that far from our location and was only half an hour away by walking.

To pass the time, I couldn't help but wonder what might happen if I pressed the system with a few more questions.

"System, do you have any other functions that I don't know of?"

[The System encourages the user to figure it out for himself by checking the status window.]

Oh, right, I forgot about the pop-up window that displays my stats and powers!

[Players should be able to gain game points from defeating enemies during the invasion. Surviving the invasion will give you a fixed amount of game points. However, the System still recommends defeating as many enemies in the invasion as they can drop materials and gear. Although there is not currently a leveling system the System has provided, experience in combat is always a good thing to have.]

The whole idea felt just like diving into an MMORPG, so I instantly grasped what the system wanted me to do.

After fifteen minutes of wandering, I glanced at my phone and was hit with breaking news about the crisis unfolding around us.

"This is News Reporter Zhao Delun, bringing you urgent news: an alien or monster invasion is expected to strike within the next twenty-four hours. Law enforcement and military units have already taken up positions, using local schools as their bases of operation. Civilians are being gathered in designated safe zones across the city. While authorities have opened the fight to all willing participants, the front lines will be held by those with exceptional abilities and skilled marksmen. Stay alert and stay safe. This is Zhao Delun, signing off."

"Did you all catch the news? The military and police are teaming up to defend their schools from the invasion, and even civilians are being called to join the fight."

We halted, uncertainty hanging in the air. Fang Xiaotong lifted his hands, breaking the silence. "Let's retrace our path and head for the nearest school. Shanghai High School will be our safe haven."

We trusted his judgment and hurried along the quickest path to Shanghai High School. When we arrived, a sea of police officers armed with guns and gear filled the entrance. My mind raced, wondering if any of my other friends would appear. His circle was never large, but there were a few classmates he always admired.

A police officer raised a megaphone, his voice cutting through the chaos. "Attention! Civilians, do not enter classrooms unless cleared by police. Your safety comes first, and we are committed to getting everyone out alive. If you have concerns, report them to the chief of command, easily recognized by a golden badge with five stars on his coat. Anyone with superpowers or System-granted abilities, declare now if you are a civilian or ready to join the fight against the invasion."

A figure dressed head to toe in immaculate white, like a chef straight from a storybook, stepped up to the podium as the police officer stepped aside. "Everyone, please remain in the school. Right now, a team of Michelin-starred chefs—fortunate enough to find themselves here—are crafting a three-course feast just for you. They have agreed to cook, but only if you promise to keep them safe. Once the preparations are complete, please form a line at the cafeteria to enjoy the meal."

Fang Xiaotong was exasperated, "Wow! That's so awesome! We get the luxury of getting fancy food and it is also prepared by high-status chefs!

But honestly, I was left utterly speechless by the news. Who wouldn't be? How often does a Michelin-star chef just pop up in your own backyard? In my neighborhood, you would have to travel twenty miles just to find a single Michelin-star restaurant.

This definitely has something to do with my Infinite Power ofLuck!

Impressive as it was, I knew I had to keep my powers a secret—at least until I'm strong enough.

Should I put this to the test? If my craving for a good dinner was just my subconscious at work, what might unfold if I set my sights on something deliberately? Time to see what happens when I focus on my own power.

Mumbling quietly I said, "I really want to understand and master my Infinite Power of Luck!"

After a few seconds to a few minutes, nothing seemed to happen. I thought it was just impossible to not receive some kind of heads up about my power but it doesnt seem like there is any trigger.
