Charlotte sat quietly on the couch beside Gérard's bed, her hands folded tightly in her lap. The room had fallen into a heavy silence after Dominique left. He had lingered for a while before finally deciding to head back to the pack forced to take a cab, of all things, since he had arrived through the portal with Inés.
He had been thoroughly irritated about that.
Inés disappearing like that hadn't sat well with him, and the fact that he had to resort to something as mundane as a cab only worsened his mood. Charlotte had done her best to calm him before he left, reminding him to be careful. In the end, he relented, though not without casting one last warning glance her way.
Now, it was just her.
Her gaze drifted back to Gérard. He was still asleep, his chest rising and falling steadily. Vittoria had gone home earlier, but Alberto remained stationed outside with two warriors, guarding the door.
