Chapter 168 - The Capture Tournament Begins

A ripple of light swept through the Mimetic Chamber, splitting it once more into two smaller environments.

Slaking and Indeedee were separated.

On Slaking's side, the world turned into a dark, oppressive forest. Visibility was low, but the air itself pulsed with danger. At the center stood a trembling female Vigoroth, clutching a Pokémon egg, surrounded by predators—Zangoose, Raticate, Persian, Seviper, and Arbok. Above, Fearow and Murkrow circled like vultures.

Slaking froze for a split second.

This scene…

It was exactly how it had been born.

"ROAAAR—!!!"

Its fur bristled as it slammed a fist into the ground, stepping forward to shield the Vigoroth. The next instant, the swarm descended. Body Slam, Take Down—attacks crashed into it relentlessly. But Slaking didn't retreat. It answered with overwhelming force, smashing enemies one by one.

And something strange happened.

Every defeated Pokémon shattered into white light… and fused into its body.

Its aura surged.

Stronger.

Denser.

More terrifying.

On the other side, Indeedee found herself inside a chaotic room—filth everywhere. Piles of dirty clothes, unwashed dishes, garbage stacked like mountains.

"Eii…"

She frowned instinctively and began cleaning.

But soon realized something was wrong—everything was anchored in place by psychic force, impossibly heavy.

So she adapted.

Pouring more psychic energy into each motion, she lifted, sorted, cleaned.

And with every piece of trash she removed, her psychic power grew purer… sharper… more refined.

Watching everything unfold, Peter couldn't help but marvel.

This system…

It didn't just train Pokémon—it recreated their pasts, instincts, and struggles, forging growth through experience.

No ordinary training method could compare.

[Ding! Skill Expansion Training Initiated:]

Zoroark → Flamethrower: Learn from fire-breathing performances

Rufflet → Shadow Claw: Study ambush tactics from stealth hunters

Teddiursa → Rock Slide: Mimic earth-shattering impact techniques

Chansey → Minimize: Observe size-altering transformation concepts

Eevee → Baton Pass: Practice precision catching drills without failure

After checking their progress, Peter nodded in satisfaction and teleported out.

Because of the time difference between Sinnoh and Johto, when he returned…

Night had already fallen.

The moon hung high in the sky.

Inside the room, Whitney sat cross-legged on the bed, watching a video on her tablet with complete focus.

"We'll decide this in one move."

Peter's voice echoed from the screen.

Whitney immediately cupped her cheeks, her eyes sparkling with admiration.

At that moment, a warm hand rested on her head.

"You like it that much…?"

She turned, grinning brightly. "Of course! My Honey is the coolest~!"

She pulled him down beside her, naturally locking his arm in place before planting a soft kiss on his cheek.

The warmth lingered.

So did the… distraction.

Peter narrowed his eyes, casually snapping the tablet shut. With a swift motion, the bedside lamp toppled.

And soon…

The bed began another "training session" of its own.

The next morning, they woke early for the Capture Tournament at the Interaction Plaza.

Opening the door, Peter wasn't surprised at all.

Nine Pokémon lay sprawled across the carpet, bruised and exhausted.

While he had been… busy last night—

They had been training just as hard.

"…Sigh."

He knelt down, gently waking them one by one.

"If you're hurt, you need to stop, okay?"

His voice softened as he applied medicine carefully.

Thankfully, with Chansey's healing and Arboliva's grassy recovery, none of the injuries were serious—just surface wounds.

"Eevee~"

Eevee licked his palm, the Soothe Bell around its neck chiming softly. A calming energy spread through the room.

Peter blinked. "That's… Heal Bell? Did Lopunny give you the Soothe Bell?"

"Eevee~!" it nodded proudly, climbing onto his shoulder. Its fluffy tail shimmered with metallic sheen.

Iron Tail.

"Eevee!" it chirped, eyes full of determination.

Peter chuckled. "Alright, alright… I'll let you battle soon, okay?"

Truth be told, he hadn't given Eevee many chances to fight. But clearly, the little one had been training hard on its own.

Lopunny stepped forward, casually feeding it a Pokéblock.

Eevee opened its mouth without hesitation—

Only for a sudden Aura Sphere to fly straight at its face.

Its eyes flashed.

Quick Attack!

With a swift sidestep, it dodged cleanly.

Lopunny nodded in approval.

Peter watched quietly, a satisfied smile forming.

His team…

Had started training each other.

And Eevee?

It was growing fast.

After breakfast, Peter returned them to the Dream Space and headed out with Whitney.

Grabbing oversized sandwiches and soybean milk from Nurse Joy, they walked toward the Interaction Plaza.

Located in the northern part of Hearthome City, the plaza had evolved from a simple park into a hub where Trainers and Pokémon bonded.

Today, it was bustling.

Participants from all around had gathered.

Whitney turned to a middle-aged woman nearby. "Excuse me, are you here for the Capture Tournament too?"

"Of course!" the woman smiled. "You must be new here. This event's been around for years—lots of cute Pokémon! If you're lucky, you can even take one home as a pet."

Whitney's eyes lit up instantly.

"Cute Pokémon?!"

She spun around and hugged Peter's arm tightly. "Honey! You HAVE to help me catch one—I want the cutest one ever!"

Peter laughed, pinching her nose lightly. "Relax, I've already prepared everything."

"Yay~!"

She beamed, planting another quick kiss on his cheek.

The woman watching nearby chuckled knowingly.

And just like that…

The festival had begun.
