"If I may ask, Royal Alpha..." Marcus began, the corner of his mouth lifting with the slightest hint of amusement. "How did you never notice the silver mark before?"
The question lingered in the room for a moment longer. Kade slowly lifted his eyes until their gazes met, and the faint smile on Marcus' face disappeared almost immediately. The warning in the Royal Alpha's expression was unmistakable, making Marcus clear his throat as he lowered his gaze.
"...I was only asking."
A faint smile tugged at the physician's lips before he answered in Kade's place.
"It would have been impossible for the Royal Alpha to notice it. The mark isn't permanently visible. It only reveals itself when the bond between mother and child resonates strongly enough to awaken the bloodline."
His gaze drifted toward the two sleeping figures on the bed, lingering for a moment on Takoda's tiny hand that still refused to let go of Dakota's sleeve.
