Chapter 196 - Chapter 196: Is Gojo Satoru About to Lose?

The Red blast had bought seconds.

Sukuna emerged from the rubble of his own shattered domain with the methodical patience of something that has been damaged before and has long since stopped registering damage as meaningful. His chest was scorched. His posture was unbothered. The King of Curses wiped a smear of blood from his lip and looked at the man across the ruins with the slow, assessing quality of someone who has recalculated and found the math still in their favor.

Gojo looked back at him.

In the prep room, the analysis ran in real time.

Finn Blake's Yuta had been tracking the tactical logic of the domain battle since the first expansion, and the picture he was assembling was not comfortable.

"I understand what Gojo-sensei is doing now," Yuta said, the horror arriving through his voice before the explanation did. "It's like a high-performance engine overheating. Normally, the system triggers an automatic safety shutdown — the machinery has to cool down before it restarts. He's completely ignoring that cooldown period."

Maki, standing with her arms crossed, finished the thought without looking away from the monitor. "So you're saying he's using the Reverse Cursed Technique to manually rebuild the melted engine parts on the fly? Forcing it to restart instantly?"

"Exactly, but to even pull that off..." Shoko Ieiri interjected, the glow of her cigarette lighting up her grim expression. "He has to actively destroy the part of his brain responsible for the cursed technique first. He is literally giving himself brain damage, and then rebuilding it from scratch. Over and over."

Yuji Itadori stared at the monitor, his fists trembling violently as the brutal reality set in."The agonizing pain of having your brain shredded and reconstructed, over and over again..." Yuji muttered, sweat dripping down his face. "And he's doing it without even flinching. If he slips up even once, his mind is going to break."

The live-chat had gone from frenzy to something quieter and harder to name:

[Everyone else saw a man dominating a fight. Only the people who care about him saw the cost.]

[Gojo Satoru has been alone at the ceiling his entire life. Now he is literally dismantling his own mind to stay there. And he's not flinching. And no one outside this room even knows.]

Domain Expansion: Unlimited Void — second time.

Gojo had adjusted. This expansion reinforced the outer shell of the closed barrier to withstand Sukuna's external slashes. A different configuration, using what he'd learned from the first collapse.

Sukuna adjusted instantly. He activated Domain Amplification simultaneously with the Malevolent Shrine, canceling the sure-hit effect of his own domain to amplify the Shrine's raw cutting output instead — a different kind of pressure, targeted at the new configuration's weak point.

The Unlimited Void shattered for a second time.

The storm of slashes returned. Gojo activated Falling Blossom Emotion — the secret anti-domain technique passed down through the Big Three Jujutsu Families. Rather than acting as static armor, his cursed energy automatically retaliated against the guaranteed-hit effects the exact millisecond they touched his skin, meeting the blades with equal force. Using it to actively intercept and mitigate the cutting attacks rather than letting the Reverse Cursed Technique carry the entire load, the strategy worked. Each slash still carved through his flesh, but they were shallower now — the mathematics of the exchange shifting entirely toward sustainability.

Third domain expansion.

This time Gojo compressed the barrier to the size of a floating sphere — a localized, high-density mass that inverted the paper-bag problem. The Unlimited Void, miniaturized, could withstand the Malevolent Shrine's external pressure because there was so little exterior to pressure. Inside that suffocating space, Gojo engaged Sukuna in close-quarters combat — using raw physical output to disrupt the domain from within.

Fourth. The clash was instantaneous. The domains met and resolved in seconds, each side finding the limit of the previous adjustment.

The audience in every living room and theater across the globe had been gripping armrests since the first expansion. By the fourth they had stopped breathing.

Fifth domain expansion.

Sukuna had to heal his physical form first, the accumulated damage from the Red blast and the close-quarters third expansion had extracted their toll. The healing took time.

Gojo was exactly 0.01 seconds faster.

That sliver of time was the deciding factor. Sukuna's domain collapsed. He was trapped within the Unlimited Void, the absolute weight of infinite information flooding his brain, his motor functions seizing under it.

Gojo closed the distance.

His hand was raised to deliver the lethal blow to Sukuna's chest.

He held back.

Gojo's face in this moment — the specific quality of hesitation that crossed his expression as he looked at Megumi's face — was the performance the franchise had been building toward since the Hidden Inventory arc. Megumi Fushiguro. The student he had found and invested in and watched grow. Still in there, somewhere, underneath everything that was wearing his face.

He could not bring himself to end it.

The live-chat understood before anyone spoke:

[He's been saying all season that he wouldn't hesitate. That any student of his would be prepared for the reality of the job. And when the moment came, he couldn't do it. He couldn't end Megumi to end Sukuna.]

[This is the crack in the strongest. Not in his power. In his heart.]

The chant arrived from the shadows.

"Furu Be, Yura Yura—"

The eight-handled wheel spun.

Mahoraga had been adapting throughout every domain exchange — not to Gojo's physical strikes, but to the metaphysical framework of his technique. Megumi's soul, forced by Sukuna to bear the baseline weight of each Unlimited Void exposure, had served as the adaptation's crucible.

The Divine General materialized from within the void. With a single fluid swipe of its Blade of Extermination, it did not shatter the barrier walls — it destroyed the endless flow of information itself from the inside out.

The space dissolved. Unlimited Void was rendered completely obsolete.

Gojo stood in the clearing, the weight of the battle crashing down. A heavy stream of dark crimson blood poured from his nose and eyes. For the first time in his life, he had encountered the absolute biological threshold of the power he had built his entire existence around.

He looked at it.

The prep room fell completely silent.

[The nosebleed. The smallest possible thing and the most devastating possible thing simultaneously. The brain has reached its limit. The engine that could rebuild itself indefinitely has found its ceiling.]

[Leo Vance held the camera on that stream of blood for two seconds and did not need to say another word. The entire audience understood.]

[The screen is going to cut. I know the screen is going to cut. I am begging it not to cut.]

The screen cut.

The Shinjuku Decisive Battle had entered its final, most dangerous phase as the world's most powerful sorcerer was bleeding from his nose.
