Chapter 87 - The Day Heaven Laughed

The morning sun continued to climb higher.

Golden light spilled across Heaven's endless skyline.

The crystal towers shimmered.

The floating gardens bloomed.

The rivers that wound through the celestial city sparkled like liquid diamonds.

It was beautiful.

Peaceful.

Perfect.

And for once—

Nothing was on fire.

Nothing was exploding.

No ancient evil had awakened.

No cosmic threat had emerged from another dimension.

No emergency meetings had been called.

No one was attempting to destroy reality.

It was such a rare occurrence that several angels had quietly written the date down for historical records.

Just in case it never happened again.

Chaos Tenno and Rowena continued walking through the city.

Hand in hand.

No destination.

No mission.

No responsibility.

Just enjoying the day.

Something they had both spent far too long without.

The streets slowly became busier as Heaven fully awakened.

Merchants opened colorful stalls.

Musicians played cheerful melodies.

Children ran through the gardens chasing glowing butterflies made of pure light.

The atmosphere felt warm.

Alive.

Hopeful.

Like a world that had finally healed.

Rowena smiled as she watched everything around them.

Rowena Graves:

"It's strange."

Chaos Tenno glanced toward her.

Chaos Tenno:

"What is?"

Rowena looked across the city.

Rowena Graves:

"I spent so many years fighting to protect places like this."

She gestured around them.

Rowena Graves:

"And now that peace is finally here…"

She laughed softly.

Rowena Graves:

"I have absolutely no idea what to do with myself."

Chaos Tenno immediately nodded.

Chaos Tenno:

"Same."

Rowena stared.

Rowena Graves:

"You literally created existence."

Chaos Tenno:

"Yes."

Rowena:

"You manage countless universes."

Chaos Tenno:

"Correct."

Rowena:

"You oversee reality itself."

Chaos Tenno:

"Technically."

Rowena crossed her arms.

Rowena Graves:

"And you're telling me you don't know how to relax?"

Chaos Tenno looked genuinely offended.

Chaos Tenno:

"I am relaxing."

Rowena pointed.

Chaos Tenno was currently reviewing thirteen timelines simultaneously.

Monitoring two distant galaxies.

Adjusting planetary weather patterns.

And unconsciously repairing a dimensional fracture several universes away.

All while walking.

Rowena simply stared.

Chaos Tenno paused.

Chaos Tenno:

"…I may need practice."

They continued walking.

A few minutes later they arrived at a small café overlooking one of Heaven's gardens.

The smell of fresh pastries drifted through the air.

Rowena immediately stopped.

Chaos Tenno noticed.

Chaos Tenno:

"Oh no."

Rowena:

"Oh yes."

Chaos Tenno sighed.

He already knew what was happening.

Five minutes later they were sitting outside beneath a canopy of silver flowers.

The table was completely covered with food.

Pastries.

Sweet rolls.

Fruit tarts.

Honey cakes.

Chocolate-filled croissants.

And several desserts that appeared to violate known laws of physics.

Chaos Tenno stared at the mountain of food.

Chaos Tenno:

"There's enough here to feed a small kingdom."

Rowena casually took a bite of a pastry.

Rowena Graves:

"Good."

Chaos Tenno:

"You ordered everything on the menu."

Rowena:

"I was curious."

Chaos Tenno:

"About all of it?"

Rowena:

"Yes."

Chaos Tenno nodded.

That was somehow a reasonable answer.

The peaceful atmosphere lasted approximately four minutes.

Then disaster struck.

Not a cosmic disaster.

Not an apocalyptic disaster.

Something far worse.

Finn Zhao arrived.

Nobody saw him approach.

Nobody ever did.

One second he wasn't there.

The next—

He was sitting at the table.

Holding a cup of coffee.

Wearing sunglasses.

For absolutely no reason.

Chaos Tenno slowly closed his eyes.

Chaos Tenno:

"How."

Finn grinned.

Finn Zhao:

"Secrets."

Rowena groaned.

Rowena Graves:

"You found us."

Finn dramatically placed a hand over his heart.

Finn Zhao:

"Found you?"

He pointed at both of them.

Finn Zhao:

"My friends."

"My family."

"My emotionally unavailable Creator God finally experiencing happiness."

Finn stood up.

Finn Zhao:

"I would have found you across every universe."

Chaos Tenno:

"That's somehow more threatening than comforting."

Finn:

"Thank you."

Before either of them could stop him—

Finn pulled out a camera.

Chaos Tenno froze.

Rowena froze.

Finn smiled.

Click.

The flash illuminated Heaven.

Chaos Tenno's soul nearly left his body.

Chaos Tenno:

"Finn."

Finn Zhao:

"Yes?"

Chaos Tenno:

"Delete that."

Finn:

"No."

Chaos Tenno:

"Finn."

Finn:

"No."

Chaos Tenno:

"Finn."

Finn:

"Absolutely not."

Rowena was laughing too hard to help.

Finn immediately examined the picture.

His grin widened.

Finn Zhao:

"Oh this is beautiful."

Chaos Tenno:

"Destroy it."

Finn:

"I'm making copies."

Chaos Tenno:

"Finn."

Finn:

"I'm framing one."

Chaos Tenno:

"Finn."

Finn:

"I'm sending one to Maximum."

Chaos Tenno:

"FINN."

Finn:

"Already sent."

Somewhere else in Heaven—

Maximum received the image.

Maximum stared.

Maximum blinked.

Maximum immediately burst into tears.

Maximum:

"THEY LOOK SO HAPPY."

Several nearby angels started crying too.

Nobody knew why.

The emotion simply spread.

Back at the café—

Chaos Tenno placed his face in his hands.

Rowena couldn't stop laughing.

Finn looked incredibly proud of himself.

Then another voice appeared.

Gray The Magpie.

Gray The Magpie:

"Oh wow."

Chaos Tenno slowly looked up.

Gray stood nearby holding a drink.

Looking far too amused.

Gray The Magpie:

"So this is where all the suspicious happiness has been coming from."

Chaos Tenno:

"Please leave."

Gray:

"No."

Gray sat down.

Immediately.

Without permission.

Like Finn.

Chaos Tenno suddenly realized something.

His peaceful morning was gone.

Completely gone.

Within ten minutes the table had somehow expanded.

More chairs appeared.

More people arrived.

Friends.

Heroes.

Warriors.

Guardians.

Angels.

Old allies.

Even a few former rivals.

Everyone somehow gathered around them.

Talking.

Laughing.

Sharing stories.

Enjoying the day.

At first Chaos Tenno tried to be annoyed.

He really did.

But eventually—

He stopped.

Because as he looked around—

He noticed something.

Everyone was smiling.

Not forced smiles.

Not relieved smiles after surviving another catastrophe.

Not exhausted smiles hiding pain.

Genuine happiness.

The kind of happiness people only find after darkness finally ends.

The kind of happiness worth fighting for.

Finn was laughing.

Gray was making terrible jokes.

Maximum was still emotional.

Several angels were trying to convince him to stop crying.

He was failing spectacularly.

Children played nearby.

Families walked through the gardens.

Music drifted through the streets.

The city felt alive.

And for the first time in a very long time—

Nobody needed him to save them.

Nobody needed a miracle.

Nobody needed a sacrifice.

Nobody needed a god.

They were simply living.

And somehow—

That made Chaos Tenno happier than any victory ever had.

Rowena noticed the expression on his face.

She leaned closer.

Rowena Graves:

"What are you thinking about?"

Chaos Tenno looked around the crowded table.

At the friends who had stood beside them through countless battles.

At the people who had survived.

At the future they had built together.

Then he smiled.

A real smile.

Warm.

Peaceful.

Content.

Chaos Tenno:

"I'm thinking this is nice."

Rowena smiled.

Finn immediately pointed.

Finn Zhao:

"EVERYONE HEARD THAT RIGHT?"

"HE ADMITTED HE'S HAPPY."

The entire table erupted into cheers.

Chaos Tenno groaned.

Rowena laughed.

Gray nearly fell out of his chair.

Maximum started crying again.

And beneath Heaven's brilliant morning sky—

Surrounded by friends.

Surrounded by family.

Surrounded by the future they had fought so hard to protect—

Chaos Tenno laughed.

Not the polite laugh he used around others.

Not the quiet chuckle he hid behind.

But a genuine laugh.

Free and unrestrained.

The sound echoed through the gardens.

Across the streets.

Through the city.

Into the endless sky above.

And for everyone who heard it—

The meaning was clear.

The wars were over.

The darkness was gone.

The universe was safe.

The Creator God had finally found peace.

And Heaven had never sounded more beautiful.
