The ceremony had no precedent.
That was the thing the organizing council had kept coming back to in the weeks of preparation, the thing that had generated the most correspondence and the most careful language and the most late evenings in the workroom going through historical records looking for something that resembled what they were trying to do.
There was nothing.
The formal acknowledgment of dual bloodline heirs had not happened in two hundred years, and the version that had happened two hundred years ago had been nothing like this, had been smaller and quieter and had not survived the political upheaval that came after it. There was no established form. No traditional order of proceedings. No script that had been used before and could be used again.
