Chapter 129 - CHAPTER HUNDRED AND TWENTY - NINE

A black wolf on the hill started howling. The sound was long and it made the hair on the back of my neck stand up straight. I looked away from the ridge and blocked a punch from a broad Ironfang soldier. I turned my hips and drove my short blade into his thigh. He groaned and dropped his axe, and I pushed him away into one of the stone graves.

 

"Watch the ridge, Freda," Rex said. He cracked his iron pipe across a man's knee and stepped closer to me.

 

"I see them," I said.

 

"They aren't here to help us," Rex said.

 

"They aren't helping Viktor either yet," I said.

 

Urdon was right next to me. His breath was rattling in his throat and his right arm was still tucked flat against his stomach. He was using his left hand to swing a thick piece of a broken oak chair. He hit a warrior across the jaw, but the wood split in half. Urdon staggered back against my shoulder, his skin hot and slick with sweat.

 

"Get behind me," I said.
