Freda Pov
I stayed beside Urdon through the longest darkest night of my entire life.
The blackness was so complete I could not see my own hands even when I held them right in front of my face. All I had was touch and sound and the feeling of his blood soaking through my dress.
"Stay with me," I whispered to him over and over. "Please Urdon. Just keep breathing. Just hold on a little longer."
But he did not respond. His breathing was so shallow I had to press my ear to his chest to hear it. His heartbeat was weak and irregular. He was slipping away and there was nothing I could do to stop it.
"The healers are coming," I said. Even though I had no idea if that was true. "They will fix you. They will stop the bleeding. You just have to hold on until they get here."
Around me I heard the pack suffering. Wolves crying in the darkness. People calling out for loved ones. The sound of complete chaos and confusion spreading everywhere.
