Rose's choked-back whimper cracked down the middle, transforming into a full, chest-heaving sob that rattled the sterile quiet of the hospital ward. She looked so small, completely overwhelmed by the sheer relief of the doctor's words, her whole body trembling as though the tension of the past days had finally found an exit. Her shoulders shook with the force of everything she'd swallowed down for far too long, every ounce of fear she had buried finally clawing its way to the surface.
"Oh, thank God," Rose wept, her face buried in her hands. "Thank God, thank God..."
