"Mason..." My voice came out as a rough, gravelly scrape against my throat, my fingers digging into the heavy fabric of Draven's jacket like it was the only solid thing left in the world. "Draven, please... Mason was shot. He's losing so much blood. We need to take him to the hospital right now. We can't wait for an ambulance…"
"I've got him, Phina. Stop talking, just breathe," a deep, grunt of a voice interrupted from the hallway.
Right on cue, Kelvin emerged from the ruined apartment doorway. He carried Mason over his massive shoulder as if the grown man weighed absolutely nothing, his large hand stabilizing Mason's thigh while his other arm kept a firm grip on his tactical weapon, scanning the corridor behind them out of pure instinct.
