Sansa's POV
I didn't know if I was just a deep sleeper or if Lisa always woke up too early, because whenever I woke up, she was rarely in the room.
I stepped out, heading straight for the chief's office. I hadn't been able to see him last night.
Koa's actions had left me too stunned to think straight. And even now… I still couldn't stop thinking about it, no matter how much I tried to feel relieved.
I forced the thoughts away as I approached his office.
I knocked once. Usually, if it was locked, it meant you were meant to wait. But when I tried the handle, it gave way easily.
The door opened, and I stepped in, but the chief wasn't in the office. My gaze shifted and landed on the second-in-command, who was deep in whatever he was reading before looking up at me.
My steps slowed, and my heartbeat quickened. Beating fast, not in any way exciting, but in fear.
There was a look in his eyes that made my skin crawl, reminding me of how he had looked at me before.
