Sebastian shouldn't have been driving.
Even he knew that.
The road stretched ahead of him in long, wavering lines, bending and shifting like it didn't trust him to follow it. His hands were tight on the wheel, knuckles pale, his breath uneven, too fast, too heavy, too full of something that wasn't just alcohol.
Amara. Her name didn't just come to him. It lingered. It ached.
He saw her everywhere.
The way her face used to light up, God, that smile. Soft at first, like she was trying to hide it, and then brighter, warmer, like she couldn't help herself. Like seeing him had once been the best part of her day.
His chest tightened. "How could I…" he muttered, his voice cracking into the empty car. "How could I do that to her?"
The memory hit harder this time. Not the good ones. No those had started to turn against him.
Now all he could see was the way her smile had fallen. The way her eyes had dimmed, like something inside her had quietly… broken.
Because of him.
