The night was heavy.
The reddish clouds—bathed in the distant fire of the ship's forges—covered the sky like a taut curtain, announcing that something felt out of place.
The deck was almost deserted; only the quiet tap of the waves against the metal accompanied the silence.
Ty Lee walked with a spring in her step for the first time in days.
She wasn't limping.
It didn't hurt.
She wasn't trembling.
Every step was a release.
—"Ren did an excellent job," she thought, gently touching the bandage under her training pants. "More than I deserved…"
But the relief didn't soothe the knot in her stomach.
She had felt it all day.
Azula was different.
Colder.
Sharper.
More… dangerous.
Ty Lee noticed it in every averted glance, in every hard smile, in every tense movement of the princess.
And Ren noticed it too.
She felt it.
That icy glint in Azula's eyes every time Ty Lee appeared in her field of vision.
It was a warning.
"Don't forget who is mine."
Ty Lee trembled.
—"I don't want to fight with her…" she whispered. "But I don't want to move away from Ren either."
Before she could think more, she heard footsteps behind her.
Silent footsteps.
Sure footsteps.
Ty Lee turned.
Ren.
Standing under the red light of the moon, the shadows outlined his figure, revealing only the firmness of his posture and that calculated glint in his golden eyes.
—"Ty Lee," he said. "Come with me."
She didn't ask.
She couldn't.
She followed him.
She followed him as if gravity were pulling her directly toward him.
Ren guided her to a side compartment of the ship, where the light was minimal and the sound of the sea made the metal walls vibrate.
Ty Lee swallowed.
—"Ren…? What's going on?"
—"One is missing," he replied.
The door opened behind them.
Azula entered.
Her figure appeared wrapped in a reddish halo. She was beautiful and terrifying, her inner fire reflected in her golden gaze.
She said nothing.
She just closed the door behind her and crossed her arms.
Ty Lee felt her stomach sink.
Ren spoke first, with a tone so calm it cut through the tension like a wet knife.
—"It's over," he said. "Both of you."
Both of them froze.
—"All this… game," he continued, approaching slowly, looking at both of them with a weight that made you want to lower your head. "Azula's anger. Ty Lee's guilt. The tense glances, the jealousy… the silent competition."
Azula pressed her lips together, a bitter mix of wounded pride and contained desire.
Ty Lee lowered her gaze, ashamed.
Ren stopped between them.
He forced them to look at him.
He forced them to listen.
—"Starting today," his voice dropped lower, deeper, "you are not enemies. You are not rivals. And you will not fight each other for my attention."
The words struck.
Azula clenched her fists.
—"And why should we listen to that?" she spat, her tone venomous but also vulnerable. "Why should I share something that is already mine?"
Ren slowly turned his face toward her.
—"Because I'm not asking for your permission."
The silence became a hot abyss.
Azula took a deep breath, rage pounding in her chest… but beneath that rage was something else:
desire.
Need.
Fear of losing him.
Ty Lee watched everything, feeling her heart break… but also relieved to see Ren maintaining firm control.
Ren took a step toward Azula.
—"You are my fire," he whispered, not touching her. "My power.
But even fire needs something to sustain it, doesn't it?"
Azula's lips parted.
Ren turned to Ty Lee.
—"And you are my lightness. My balance. My freedom of movement."
Ty Lee felt her eyes moisten.
Ren extended a hand toward both of them, touching neither.
—"I need you both," he said. "Not fighting.
Not competing.
Not hurting each other.
—"I need you functioning as a single force…
for me."
The silence was absolute.
You could hear the creak of the wood.
Ty Lee's ragged breath.
Azula's rapid heartbeat.
Ren lowered his hand.
—"Your new role is simple," he ruled:
"you fight for me, not against each other.
You follow me, not your emotions.
You serve the White Lotus… and me."
Azula finally spoke, her voice lower, more human, almost a hurt whisper:
—"And what if it still bothers me to see her with you?"
Ren took a step toward her.
He looked her directly in the eyes.
—"Then you will learn self-control."
Azula felt a shiver run down her spine.
Ty Lee swallowed, dizzy between fear and devotion.
Ren turned his gaze back to her.
—"And you?" he asked. "Are you still afraid of disappointing me?"
Ty Lee shook her head quickly.
—"No… I won't fail you. I promise."
Ren nodded, satisfied.
—"Good.
Because starting tonight…
you both stop acting like girls competing…"
And his voice dropped.
Firm.
Deep.
Unappealable.
—"And you start acting like women who serve me."
Azula lowered her eyes.
Ty Lee did too.
And Ren knew he had them.
Both of them.
In the same room.
Under his same control.
And willing to walk exactly where he guided them.
