For a brief second...
No one moved.
The fake doctor suddenly lunged forward with the syringe.
Fu Shiyi grabbed his wrist.
The syringe flew across the room and shattered against the wall.
The man immediately drew a dagger.
Steel clashed against steel as the two struggled through the ward.
Medical equipment crashed onto the floor.
The heart monitor shrieked.
The assassin kicked Fu Shiyi backward before smashing the window and disappearing onto the emergency staircase.
"Damn it..."
Fu Shiyi chased after him but stopped halfway.
If he continued chasing...
Lin Meiyin would be alone.
He looked back toward the ward.
His expression darkened.
"They've already infiltrated the hospital..."
He immediately disconnected the IV.
"I'm sorry..."
"But I can't leave you here."
He carefully lifted Lin Meiyin into his arms.
She remained unconscious.
Outside, the corridor was empty.
Exactly as if someone had planned it.
Fu Shiyi carried her through the staff elevator and disappeared into the underground parking garage.
Moments later—
The elevator doors opened again.
Gu Chenyu strode out, followed by Chang and several bodyguards.
He pushed open the ward door.
The room was a complete mess.
The IV line dangled from the bed.
The bouquet slipped from his hand.
His pupils contracted.
The bed...
Was empty.
Qin Cheng rushed in behind him.
"What happened?"
A trembling nurse pointed toward the open window.
"The patient..."
"She's gone..."
Silence.
Terrifying silence.
Gu Chenyu slowly clenched his fists.
His voice was calm.
Far too calm.
"Lock down every airport."
"Every train station."
"Every harbor."
"No one leaves this country."
"What's this?" Qin Cheng asked, looking down at something.
Everyone paused and looked down.
There was a used syringe on the floor with a small amount of liquid left inside.
And a watch.
A very familiar watch.
There was a little blood on it.
Gu Chenyu picked up the watch and frowned.
He searched his memory, and suddenly remembered.
He turned toward Chang.
"Find Fu Shiyi."
"I don't care what it costs."
"Bring my wife back."
Far away...
Inside the black SUV...
Lin Meiyin's fingers moved ever so slightly.
A faint whisper escaped her lips.
"...Chenyu..."
Fu Shiyi tightened his grip on the steering wheel.
"You finally spoke..."
"But this is only the beginning."
---
"She was here just some minutes ago. How could she just disappear like that?" Aunt Fei cried out.
"How long does it take to examine that damn thing?"
Qin Cheng paced up and down in his office.
Meanwhile, Gu Chenyu sat quietly, saying nothing.
Wei Zhang and Pei Shao stood in the corner like frightened cats.
They watched Gu Chenyu sitting there with a dark expression.
His eyes were calculating.
His fingers tapped against the arm of the chair, each movement controlled.
Aunt Fei studied the tense atmosphere and stood up.
"Why are you pacing up and down? You're making me dizzy," she complained to Qin Cheng.
Qin Cheng said nothing. He only glared at her before continuing to pace.
She turned toward Pei Shao and Wei Zhang.
"Why are you all so scared? He hasn't even said anything to you."
"That's exactly the problem," Wei Zhang answered. "The fact that he's saying nothing."
"I'm having a terrible headache," Aunt Fei sighed.
Ding!
A phone lit up.
Gu Chenyu stopped tapping his fingers, and the air seemed to freeze.
Everyone looked at him eagerly, waiting to see what he would do next.
He suddenly stood up.
Qin Cheng stopped pacing and looked at him.
Gu Chenyu glanced at his phone.
"Where are you going?" Qin Cheng asked.
Gu Chenyu said nothing, but his grip tightened around his phone.
Suddenly, the door opened, and another doctor walked in.
"Doctor Cheng, it's out," he said, handing the paper to Qin Cheng.
Qin Cheng opened the document and read it with a serious expression.
Gu Chenyu looked at him with meaningful eyes.
"Someone tried to make her coma permanent," the doctor explained carefully. "The substance used was meant to leave no obvious signs."
Qin Cheng nodded.
"And the fingerprints?" Gu Chenyu asked.
"They belong to Fu Shiyi," the doctor answered. "And there's also a match to a man named Ji Mo."
He paused before continuing.
"The blood found on the watch also matches."
"That's all the information I could find," the doctor said.
"You may leave," Qin Cheng ordered.
"I'm available if you need anything else, Doctor Cheng," the young doctor said with a smile before leaving.
"Ji Mo..." Pei Shao murmured.
"There have been traces of Fu Shiyi around H City," Gu Chenyu said as he walked out.
"He booked a penthouse in Qi Lakeview."
"Wait for me," Wei Zhang said, following Gu Chenyu out.
Qin Cheng was about to say something, but the door closed before he could speak.
A saddened expression appeared on his face.
Pei Shao sighed.
"Just give him some time. You know how much Lin Meiyin means to him."
He placed a hand on Qin Cheng's shoulder before heading toward the door.
As soon as they left, Qin Cheng grabbed his phone.
"Find Ji Mo for me," he ordered. "And find the last person he interacted with recently."
