"Kai? Where are we going?" Rami asked blankly, his voice hushed as he let himself be pulled along.
Kai didn't respond. Instead, he walked them deep enough into the alley that the faint moonlight barely reached, and the distant sounds of revellers - those leaving the taverns before the runic lamps died and plunged the city into complete darkness - swiftly faded away.
"Kai?" Rami asked again, his brow lifted questioningly when Kai only halted and turned around with his back against the cool, stone wall of bright-yellow brick.
In answer he reached forwards and grasped Rami by the front of his shirt until there was barely an inch of space between them.
Kai's breathing hitched when he was close enough for him to feel the heat radiating from Rami's bronzed skin, and even with the lack of light, he could still detect the scent of woodchips and airship fuel. Warm, familiar and achingly close.
