Rameses gripped the railing when he reached the final stretch of his climb, his legs growing heavier with each passing moment whilst the air thinned.
He pushed on, his teeth gritted in determination.
He had to know what he was seeing, what that light meant, why it was surrounding every living being. Why Kai's appeared to be more beautiful to him than anything else.
A part of him wished he had said no when Kai had asked if he could bring Genevieve for the trip, but seeing the excited gleam in his bright, hazel eyes when Rameses had told him that he could hear the call, he had been unable to decline.
He had almost said nothing, made the trip on his own instead.
Hearing the call so soon after turning eighteen, however, was rare. It wouldn't always mean that the Artifact was more powerful, but it could signal an abnormality, something that could be reckless to obtain without assistance.
