From a distance, he thought he could hear someone screaming.
It could have been him, or Kai, or even Genevieve.
His mind refused to comprehend anything except for the acid fire that was burning its way through his irises.
Rameses didn't know how long it lasted, seconds could have been days with his eyes screwed shut, screaming in the dark until his voice cracked.
Ah, it was him then. He was the one screaming.
Once that singular awareness returned to him, he clamped his mouth shut and attempted to muffle his voice when he caught the sound of another shouting his name in pure, unbridled fear.
Kai. Kai was frightened. He had to stay quiet.
