Before the beasts could even turn their eyes toward me, a shadow fell over the entire clearing.
Jor had materialized by my side in a fraction of a second, his massive, scaled tail wrapping around my waist and pulling me securely against his chest.
His expression was pure, unadulterated fury.
But it was too late.
Utilizing the blinding flurry of kicked up snow, the remaining rogues grabbed Luna's limp, bundled body and vanished back into the dense, dark thicket of the eastern forest.
"Stay here. Do not move from this cave," Jor whispered into my ear, his voice vibrating with a terrifying, ancient resonance that made my teeth rattle.
He didn't wait for a response.
He slid into the snow, vanishing into the whiteout after the pack with a speed that defied physics.
The next twenty four hours were an agonizing, sleepless hell.
