Chapter 98: Movie Series — The Burnout Will
Through the preceding descriptions from the Divine Voice, the viewers across the various world bubbles finally understood the reason Uryu Ishida had targeted Mayuri Kurotsuchi.
Upon learning this, the Yamamotos of other worlds felt their displeasure toward Uryu's rampage in the Seireitei gradually fade, replaced by a deep-seated revulsion toward Mayuri's past actions. After the Quincy Extermination War, Soken Ishida had been allowed to cooperate with Soul Reapers to hunt Hollows—a situation that would have been impossible without the tacit approval of high-ranking Reapers, specifically Yamamoto himself.
The purpose was simple: a facade of magnanimity combined with practical necessity. In the mortal realm, Quincies were far more efficient than Soul Reapers; keeping a few around drastically reduced the Gotei 13's administrative costs.
For Mayuri to delay reinforcements, betray Soken, and then use his dying body for destructive human experimentation was a massive slap in the face. It wasn't just Yamamoto's face being struck, but the honor of the entire Gotei 13. If this became public, the world would think the Captains spent their days wallowing in such despicable, filthy schemes.
Indeed, Captains across the bubbles—many of whom were men and women of high character—felt ashamed to be associated with such a person. Even those less noble found Mayuri's methods distasteful. Soken was an old man; Quincies, as human variants, didn't live long and died in battle anyway. Why make it so unsightly when nature would have taken its course soon enough?
While the Reapers simmered, the Uryus of other worlds clenched their fists, their blood boiling for their on-screen counterpart. If they could truly avenge Soken, then all the "torment"—er, "tempering"—from the Divine Voice became trivial.
On the screen, the footage began to play in slow motion as Uryu threw his Reishi Blasting Fist. The fist, wreathed in majestic light, drove toward Mayuri inch by inch. At that moment, a scrolling "bullet-chat" (Danmu) appeared across the top of the screen:
[Mayuri Kurotsuchi (World 0): I still think Soken Ishida was a dishonest fellow. He was clearly a master of fisticuffs, yet he hid behind a bow all day. If I'd known the Quincies possessed such world-shaking martial arts, I wouldn't have been so disheveled. If I'd been prepared, I'd have that brat lying on my operating table in 365 different poses just like his grandfather. Wait... why are my inner thoughts appearing on the screen?]
[Uryu Ishida (World 0): You loser, give me your coordinates! I'll dive into Hell right now and won't stop until I've cut you into 360 pieces!!!]
[Mayuri Kurotsuchi (World 0): Coordinates? Don't joke! I'm not as stupid or impulsive as you. Let's see each other at the next tournament. By then, having fused with Konjiki Ashisogi Jizō, I'll give you an infinite surprise with the Ultimate Dark Force of Hell.]
[Uryu Ishida (World 0): Then prepare yourself. For the next tournament, I will push the Reishi Blasting Fist to a brand-new Ultimate Realm. By then, not even the undying laws of Hell will save you!]
Mo Yu, the 3D God, was a perfectionist. Having grown used to bullet-chats, he took a moment to add the feature to the movie, starting with a few "lucky" pilots to liven things up.
The movie continued. The slow-motion captured the essence of the Reishi Blasting Fist perfectly. The silent roar of the "Beast" seemed to break through the screen, echoing in the viewers' hearts. It also captured Mayuri's transition from indifference to confidence, then to shock, and finally to denial.
Mayuri was blasted until his bones were pulverized, collapsing into the dirt. The Mayuris of other worlds curled their lips. Being selfish by nature, they weren't angry that their alternate self was beaten; they just thought that version was incompetent. However, they sharpened their vigilance:
"So a Quincy's strongest art isn't archery, but boxing? Ke-ke-ke! Other-me, go in peace. I have absorbed your lesson!"
In the Wandenreichs, Yhwach tilted his head in confusion. Did the Quincies have such a legacy? He had absorbed so many souls he couldn't find Soken's specific memories immediately, but seeing that the fist was built on the foundation of Ransōtengai, he offered a rare silent praise:
"Not through my Sacred Blood, but through the refinement of Quincy arts to reach a state similar to Vollständig... Soken Ishida truly was a grandmaster. This is the supreme heritage of the Quincy race!"
On screen, Mayuri's hidden healing measures kicked in. Captain Komamura appeared to mediate, only for Uryu's battle intent to spike further, unleashing an even more potent fist. As Komamura was sent flying, a new bullet-chat scrolled by:
[Sajin Komamura (World 0): Ahem. Faced with the strongest art of the Quincy, I admit my skills were lacking back then. But other-me's, do not worry. For the next tournament, I will boost my Purity and reclaim our honor with my clan's strongest 'Heavenly Wolf World-Rending Claw.']
The multiversal Komamuras wondered what the hell a "World-Rending Claw" was. In World 0, Komamura had transformed into a mountain-sized werewolf, discarding all his trained arts to manically dig at the earth to train his grip—he looked like a Husky in a state of total frenzy.
In the movie, Uryu dragged his broken body forward, clenching his fist once more. Then, Yamamoto appeared, catching the fist and calling the display "nonsense."
[Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto: The ultimate antagonist of this movie, the strongest King of Assassins and Soul Reapers for a millennium, and Lord of the Purgatory Remnant Sun of Hell...]
The Reapers of all worlds turned solemn. Yamamoto was the pillar of the era; no mastermind could shake the world without facing him. Yet, even as he blocked Uryu, the audience saw that the fire in Uryu's eyes had not died. It was burning hotter.
"That brat's gaze... it looks familiar," Shunsui Kyoraku muttered in one world, quickly finding the answer: "It looks like Fisher during his burnout!"
It was the brilliance of crossing the limit—a miracle of Purity. Death and soul-destruction could not stop the roar of that battle intent. On the screen, Uryu's soul literally leapt out of his collapsing body, transforming into a matchless fist of pure will that bypassed Yamamoto and slammed into Mayuri!
As Mayuri was ground into meat-paste and truly blasted into dust, a final chat scrolled:
[Genryusai Shigekuni Yamamoto (World 0): That punch was potent. A truly unstoppable fist. It was no shame for this old man to fail to block it!]
In the Hell-Seireitei, Yamamoto nodded in approval. Having become a Martial Artist, he knew that a Reishi Blasting Fist driven by the Burnout Realm was a matter of Causal Certainty—once thrown, it could not be stopped.
Yhwach's reaction was the most intense: "Excellent! Potent! Truly a Last Quincy worthy of a million years of glory!" Power mattered little; Quincies never lacked power. It was this level of conviction that defined the "Empire of Light."
The movie accelerated. Yamamoto's fury and the Divine Voice's reprimand flashed by, hinting at the plot to come. The King of Soul Reapers would not lay down his blade just because of the Soul King's command; it only made him grip it tighter.
Yoruichi saved Uryu. The scene jumped forward. A mysterious Quincy appeared and took Uryu to the Wandenreich, revealing the hidden empire to the multiverse.
"Yhwach... you were hiding in the Seireitei's shadow!?" Yamamotos everywhere were stunned by the "under the lamp" tactic.
The screen introduced the King of Quincies:
[Yhwach: Supporting character, King of Quincies and Son of the Soul King, the 'Spring Shadow Martial God' of the New World, and a candidate for godhood.]
The movie glossed over the communication between the Divine Voice and Yhwach. The result: Uryu was promoted to Crown Prince and then immediately handed over to Aizen by the Divine Voice, sentenced to death by Central 46, to be executed in seven days.
[Uryu Ishida (World 0): So that's why I became the Crown Prince? That's a bit ridiculous...]
The multiversal Rukias looked on with odd expressions, seeing their role taken by Uryu. The Uryus of other worlds could only sigh; as long as the Soul King was happy, they were out of complaints.
The camera cut to the World of the Living. Ichigo, hands in pockets, had a brief chat with Urahara. Then, with matchless Purity, he projected his voice across Karakura, calling all Martial Artists to the Soul Society for a "high-mortality, legendary battle."
Rowdy, muscular giants responded with roars. As long as the fight was potent, death was irrelevant!
The Senkaimon opened. Ichigo strolled through, leading a pack of "potent," oil-slicked muscle-men into the Soul Society. The Reapers watching the screen gulped. They knew how strong these "Hollow-converts" were, backed by the Purity system and the Soul King's will.
As expected, the giants began treating Soul Reapers like "small hot dogs," feasting on the conflict. The Seireitei fell into chaos. Then, the battle-maniac Kenpachi Zaraki appeared.
"Oh? Am I the first to fight Ichigo again? I wonder if that other Kenpachi enjoyed it!"
The Kenpachis of all worlds watched with anticipation. Then, a bullet-chat:
[Kenpachi Zaraki (World 0): Other-me's, take my advice: do not fight an Ichigo who has mastered Purity. You will fall into a nightmare and fight a persistent opponent forever...]
They didn't understand. Why wouldn't Kenpachi be excited by a better fight? They turned back to the screen.
The fight was beyond their imagination. Ichigo didn't even defend. He took every hit, but it was meaningless. He was a mountain; Kenpachi was a child hitting a cliff. With a casual punch, Ichigo knocked Kenpachi senseless and then gently asked: "Have you eaten today?"
The Kenpachis in the audience turned red with rage. Some immediately ran to find their local Ichigo to prove they were T.M.D. (f*cking) full!
Ichigo stood over Kenpachi and declared his reason for being the Strongest: To protect and save, he must be the Strongest. If the world won't turn as he wishes, he will beat it until it does!
He looked like a Tyrant reigning over all. He told Kenpachi he hoped his enemies were worthy of his resolve, or he was wasting his time.
"For a warrior, nothing is scarier than the fight continuing after you've already lost!" Aizen noted in Las Noches. He realized Ichigo wasn't even trying; he was being casual. "That power called Purity... is terrifying."
The fight ended with Kenpachi tearing Ichigo's shirt. Viewers gasped. Ichigo had the "Heavenly Fist" Fisher had used to burn out locked within his own body—fighting a never-ending war within himself. His Purity was haunting.
Kenpachi lost. Everyone now knew why World 0 Kenpachi warned them: the Endless Fisher Punch had branded Kenpachi's soul, forcing him to duel Fisher's war-soul every time he closed his eyes.
The movie didn't stop. The screen split. On the left, Ichigo strolled leisurely through the city. On the right, Yamamoto stood atop his HQ, looking down.
Suddenly, Ichigo looked up. His gaze met Yamamoto's from across the split screen.
Great cinematography needs no words. Everyone felt it: the Strongest Creature on Earth was about to clash with the Strongest Soul Reaper in a millennium.
