I felt Nyra before I saw her; her scent was unmistakable. Her gaze settled on me first, lingering in that deliberate way she had, as though she were studying me, waiting for the right moment to step in, and it was enough to make me slow, my movements losing some of their rhythm as tension returned before I had even turned to face her.
By the time I did, she was already standing at the edge of the clearing, composed as always, her expression calm in a way that revealed nothing and yet somehow felt intentional.
"What do you want?" I asked.
"They sent me," she said. The words came easily, without hesitation, as though there was nothing about them that should be questioned, and I held her gaze for a moment longer than necessary before asking what she meant.
"They want you back at the cave," she added, her tone even, almost casual. "Now."
