Rowan didn't give me back my body for…I don't know how long.

Every time I came back to consciousness and looked through her eyes, she pushed me back. She pushed me back like she used to back before we'd reached an understanding. She didn't let me see. She suffocated me until I was no longer awake. And that happened three times.

On the fourth, I woke up so panicked, I was surprised she didn't jump in place, too. But she was running. Woods—a different kind of woods than the last time I was awake. It was dark outside, but sunrise wasn't too far away.

The sky was beginning to lighten up. Had Rowan been running for twenty-four hours? Or had she stopped to rest?

Her body was near exhaustion, her paws raw but not bloody yet. She ran at full speed, never stopping to acknowledge the animals we passed by, who made way for us in silence, hiding behind trees.

"Rowan, stop!" I called to her in my mind, but I already expected her not to.
