After hearing the full story, Lucas finally understood.
"Is Carrie safe?" Wanda asked anxiously.
"If she's with the Ancient One, there's nothing to worry about," Lucas reassured her.
"By the way—how is Pietro?"
"He's recovering quickly," Wanda replied. "But he blames himself for not protecting Carrie."
Lucas nodded and went upstairs to Pietro's room.
Pietro lay in bed, eyes closed.
When he heard the door open, he slowly opened them.
"Lucas… I'm sorry. I couldn't protect Carrie. It's my fault."
His voice was heavy with guilt.
"If I had been stronger… faster… maybe this wouldn't have happened."
Lucas shook his head.
"No. You did everything you could in that moment."
"Beyond that, no matter how willing you were, it was beyond your ability."
