The waters of the Hoenn region were exceptionally clear, shimmering like aquamarine under the sunlight. Corsola, Luvdisc, and Huntail frolicked in the shallows, weaving through lush seagrass. On the seabed, numerous Shellder and Clamperl lazily opened their shells, revealing priceless pearls.
"This would be an ideal place to harvest pearls, but my primary goal is to find Relicanth," Feng Che murmured to himself. "I wonder if it's still in these waters."
According to Shiori, Relicanth favored the tender seagrass that grew in this specific area. She had spotted them here in the past.
"No Relicanth yet, but it looks like we have company," Feng Che noted as a swarm of Chinchou and Lanturn converged on him, their expressions far from friendly. Arcs of electricity crackled across their bodies, signaling their readiness for a fight.
Chinchou are blue, fish-like Pokémon with two small, stubby feet and two long tentacles extending from their backs, each tipped with a yellow, droplet-shaped glowing organ. They communicate and hunt using flashes of light and electrical discharges. Their evolution, Lanturn, is larger and possesses a single branched antenna with two glowing bulbs. They are masters of the deep, using intense light to daze their prey before delivering a finishing shock.
A massive Lanturn surged forward, its bulbs emitting a blinding flash of light—a specialized hunting technique designed to stun opponents.
"Gyarados, use Whirlpool!"
Feng Che gripped Gyarados's crest tightly as the red sea dragon whipped its tail, manifesting a powerful vortex. The electrical surges from the Chinchou and Lanturn spread through the water but failed to penetrate the spinning wall of the whirlpool. Instead, the current was reflected back, knocking out several of the attackers who didn't possess the Volt Absorb ability.
The Lanturn leader, enraged, coated itself in golden electricity and charged headlong into the vortex.
"Gyarados, use Aqua Tail!" Feng Che sent a telepathic command.
With a thunderous splash, Gyarados's tail slammed the Lanturn leader into a nearby reef, leaving it unconscious.
"Go, Poké Ball!" Feng Che decided to capture the large Lanturn; it would serve as an excellent backup power source for his breeding house. With their leader defeated, the rest of the swarm scattered.
Suddenly, a massive Relicanth emerged from the jagged rocks. It looked ancient and thoroughly irritated by the commotion. Relicanth is a prehistoric fish with map-like patterns on its light brown head and deep brown body, marked by a prominent red spot.
"Finally, you've shown up," Feng Che thought. "Gyarados, the capture is yours."
The Relicanth roared, exhaling a barrage of rocks that acted like depth charges, detonating through the water and causing the seabed to tremble. The silt was kicked up, turning the water murky. Seizing the moment of confusion, Gyarados coiled its massive body around the ancient fish, pinning it tight.
Arcs of electricity danced around Gyarados's fangs as it initiated a Thunder Fang, biting down on the Relicanth. The high-voltage surge paralyzed the prehistoric Pokémon instantly.
"Perfect. It's powerful, but its ancient systems haven't fully woken up from its long slumber." Feng Che used his telekinesis to launch a Sport Ball, successfully securing the Relicanth.
The Surface
Feng Che emerged from the water and pulled out his laptop. He used a high-resolution scanner to map the patterns on Relicanth's scales, comparing them with modern nautical charts. After a few minutes of processing, he successfully locked onto a specific coordinate—a hidden island that housed the Ocean Shrine.
"Found it. The sanctuary of Kyogre." A thin smile played on his lips.
The Sea God Grotto: Team Aqua Base
Archie, the leader of Team Aqua, sat upon a throne of coral, staring down at his subordinates. The Alpha rune on his forehead pulsed with a cold, blue light.
"The Sea God has given me a command," Archie announced, his voice echoing with an unnatural resonance. "We must find the Ocean Shrine. The God requires its power to reconstruct its divine form. Also... have you found the brat who desecrated the Sea God's treasures?"
"My apologies, Lord Archie," a subordinate stammered, bowing low. "The individual vanished without a trace. He doesn't appear to be a local. I am cross-referencing League databases now."
"Continue the search. The Sea God loathes him. When he is found, he is to be stripped of his soul and torn into ten thousand pieces," Archie snarled, a twisted grin on his face.
The Hidden Island
Feng Che arrived at the coordinates on the back of his Corviknight. The island was teeming with Wingull and Pelipper, diving into the surf to catch small fish.
"Corviknight, land on the beach. We have a shrine to find."
The steel bird dove like a cyan streak, landing silently on the sand without alerting the birds above. Its speed was truly peerless.
"Well done. Now, Frogadier, use the Kyogre Scale."
Frogadier emerged, the scale glowing with a faint azure light. It floated into the air, acting as a compass. Suddenly, the water erupted as a legion of Staryu and Starmie leaped from the waves, followed by a three-meter-tall Octillery and several large Mantine.
Octillery are red, cephalopod-like Pokémon with yellow suction cups and stone-hard heads. The older they get, the larger and more formidable they become, capable of dragging entire ships to the abyss. Mantine resemble giant manta rays, often accompanied by Remoraid, which they sometimes launch like organic missiles.
"I see. To claim the inheritance, one must defeat the competition," Feng Che noted. "Frogadier, it's your time to shine."
Frogadier's cautious demeanor vanished, replaced by the focus of a warrior. A Mantine roared past, launching its Remoraid like a projectile. Frogadier blurred, dodging the fish-missile and countering with a Water Pulse. As the Remoraid hit the sand, Frogadier slammed a frozen palm onto the earth, trapping the attacker in a block of ice.
The Mantine leader launched a Bubble Beam, but Frogadier leaped back, the bubbles cratering the sand where it had stood. Frogadier manifested two water whips, lashing out and striking the Mantine with such force it spun uncontrollably into a tree. The remaining Mantine were quickly dispatched with a twin Ice Beam, falling into the sea as frozen blocks.
The giant Octillery watched lazily before signaling its Staryu and Starmie. They began to spin at high speeds, resembling living buzzsaws as they charged Frogadier. Frogadier condensed two massive Water Shurikens, nearly as tall as itself, and hurled them. Upon contact, the shurikens detonated into a storm of high-pressure droplets, the impact forcing the star Pokémon deep into the ground.
Finally, the Octillery moved. A massive tentacle slammed down toward Frogadier, heavy as a mountain. It left a deep furrow in the beach, but Octillery smirked—if that hit, the frog was finished. The cephalopod reached for the floating Kyogre scale.
Suddenly, Octillery let out a gurgle of pain as one of its tentacles was sliced clean off, writhing on the sand.
[Octillery: What?! When did he move?] Its wound rippled, and a new tentacle regenerated in seconds.
Impressive regeneration, Feng Che thought, but I wonder how those tentacles would taste as takoyaki?
Octillery unleashed a massive Hydro Pump, but Frogadier's extreme speed made the attack look like it was moving in slow motion. One by one, Octillery's tentacles were severed by Frogadier's water blades faster than they could regrow. Soon, only the head of the Octillery remained on the sand.
[Octillery: You think this is over? My ink contains a neurotoxin! And my severed limbs still answer to me!]
As Frogadier moved in for the finish, the discarded tentacles suddenly surged, suction cups locking onto Frogadier's legs. The added weight dragged the frog down, and more limbs coiled around its body, pinning it. Octillery prepared to spray its lethal ink.
[Octillery: I've won. Once the toxin hits, you're dead.]
Clink.
A Poké Ball tapped against Octillery's head.
[Octillery: HEY! That's cheating!]
The ball wobbled and clicked. Captured.
"You have a trainer, buddy. I'm not letting you pull a cheesy comeback," Feng Che muttered. He then gathered up the remaining high-potential Starmie and Mantine. "I have enough Water-types now to open a professional aquarium."
At that moment, the Kyogre scale erupted with brilliant light. The sea itself split in two, revealing the magnificent, ancient Ocean Shrine hidden beneath the waves.
