"Pheww..." I finally circle all the way back to the main gates, arriving right where we started. I slide off Ravok's back and stand right in front of his face.
I gently place both of my hands over his large ears. Channeling what little magic I can actually manage, a soft, gentle green glow radiates from my palms, wrapping around his ears like a comforting blanket.
"Hmm, well, I don't really know how perfectly it's going to work," I murmur, offering him a sweet smile, "but at least the outside sounds won't hit your ears so harshly now. It should block out the loudest thunder claps, so don't be scared anymore. I'm coming right back out once the basement cleaning is completely done, okay?"
Ravok lets out a soft, vibrating huff, completely relaxed now.
But just as I turn around to head back inside the mansion, a sudden, blinding flash catches the edge of my vision. Above us, the golden barrier violently flares, glowing a hundred times brighter than before.
