(Next Day—Mid Afternoon)
"Ahm..." I stretch languidly on the bed, slowly drifting awake. But the moment I try to crack my eyes open, the harsh, bright afternoon sun hits me square in the face.
"Ugh!" I immediately flip onto my stomach, burying my face deep into the pillows. "Kael!!! Block the light!"
I hear the quick rustle of fabric and the thud of the balcony doors being shut. He draws the heavy curtains, plunging the room into a cool, merciful shade. "My apologies, my lady," he says softly.
I flip back over, squinting at him through the dim light. "Why didn't you keep them closed? My whole bed feels hot now!"
"My apologies," he repeats, bowing his head slightly.
"Ugh!" I sit up, rubbing the sleep from my eyes and trying to shake off the grogginess. "So... did Elena come by?"
He steps forward, his posture as impeccable as ever. "Yes. You are expected to be ready by evening; she will be coming to assist you herself."
