Chapter 30 - Put Me In Coach

Morning arrived slowly.

Sunlight filtered through the tall windows in soft golden beams, catching on tangled blankets, discarded clothing, and what appeared to be the aftermath of a very enthusiastic pillow war.

Jax slowly surfaced from sleep with a quiet groan.

Warmth surrounded him from every direction.

Weight too.

A concerning amount of weight.

He opened one eye experimentally.

Immediately discovered:

Bunny asleep against his chest

Zee curled against his side

Nyxian somehow using his shoulder as a pillow

and Llandra pressed comfortably against his back

Jax blinked once.

Then realized he physically could not move without causing a chain reaction.

"…Impressive," he muttered quietly.

Somehow—

through means beyond mortal understanding—

Nyxian and Bunny also appeared to be sharing portions of the same maid outfit.

Fabric stretched lazily between them like the aftermath of a surrendered battle flag.

Jax stared at it for several seconds.

"…I have questions."

No one answered.

Bunny snored softly.

Nyxian twitched slightly in her sleep.

Zee mumbled something incoherent about mana circulation.

And honestly?

Jax smiled.

Because despite the chaos—

this felt strangely peaceful.

Comfortable.

Real.

Llandra woke first.

The elf remained still for a few moments simply listening:

breathing

quiet morning sounds

soft movement outside the inn

The lingering soreness in her muscles was impossible to ignore.

Oddly enough—

she didn't mind it at all.

Emotionally and physically, she felt lighter than she had in years.

More secure.

More complete.

She felt Jax beginning to wake behind her and smiled faintly to herself.

Honestly…

that realization scared her slightly.

How quickly he had become important to all of them.

Llandra turned just enough to press a soft kiss against his shoulder.

Then another against his chest.

Gentle.

Unhurried.

Affectionate.

Jax looked down at her sleepily.

"…Morning."

"Good morning," she replied softly.

The system chimed faintly somewhere nearby.

Nyxian groaned without opening her eyes.

"If one more system notification interrupts my sleep…"

"Pretty sure we caused that problem ourselves," Jax replied.

"That sounds like accountability."

Nyxian frowned immediately.

"I dislike accountability."

Llandra laughed quietly.

Carefully disentangling herself from the blankets, she gathered one of Jax's oversized shirts from the floor and slipped it on before padding into the suite's living area.

A few moments later—

Jax followed.

Hair messy.

Expression relaxed.

Still waking up fully.

The hallway bell chimed softly outside the door.

Jax opened it.

Then blinked.

A breakfast cart sat abandoned in the hallway.

Coffee.

Juice.

Bread.

Fruit.

Pastries.

No employee in sight.

Jax looked both directions down the hallway.

Empty.

"…They fled."

Llandra nearly spit out her laugh.

Jax wheeled the cart inside slowly.

"I think the inn staff is scared of us now."

"That seems reasonable."

"They wouldn't even make eye contact yesterday."

Llandra smiled into her juice glass.

"Well…"

She gestured vaguely toward the destroyed maid outfits still visible from the bedroom doorway.

"…we may have contributed to the rumors."

"Fair."

Jax poured her juice first automatically.

The fruit wasn't from Earth, but it reminded him faintly of grapefruit.

Llandra accepted the glass gently.

"Thank you."

Jax leaned casually against the table.

"You don't have to thank me every five minutes."

"I know."

She stepped slightly closer.

"…I want to."

That landed harder than expected.

Jax studied her quietly for a moment.

Not awkwardly.

Not nervously.

Just honestly.

Llandra noticed that now.

Jax never seemed afraid of emotional closeness.

That confidence grounded people around him naturally.

"I had a good time last night," he admitted.

The tips of her ears turned pink immediately.

"…So did I."

The bedroom door opened again.

Nyxian wandered out stretching dramatically while wearing one of Jax's shirts.

Only one of Jax's shirts.

She looked between them suspiciously.

"What are you two plotting?"

"Breakfast," Jax replied immediately.

Nyxian narrowed her eyes.

"…That's not what I sensed."

Llandra nearly choked on her drink.

"Stay out of my head."

Nyxian smirked wickedly.

"Your thoughts are loud."

"THAT is invasive."

"THAT is adorable."

Bunny's sleepy voice drifted from the bedroom.

"…Why do I feel like flirting already started without me?"

Zee appeared moments later rubbing her eyes gently.

Her hair looked completely impossible.

"…Is there coffee?"

Jax pointed toward the cart.

"Help yourselves."

The suite slowly filled with movement and soft conversation.

Bunny stole pastries immediately.

Nyxian stole Bunny's pastries immediately afterward.

Zee nearly fell asleep sitting upright with coffee in both hands.

Llandra sat beside Jax comfortably enough that it already felt routine.

That realization surprised all of them slightly.

Not the intimacy.

The ease of it.

Eventually Zee checked her system first.

"…Oh."

That got everyone's attention.

"What?" Bunny asked immediately.

Zee blinked at the floating screen.

"…The iPoint bonuses increased again."

Nyxian perked up instantly.

"Wait seriously?"

One by one the Vixens opened their systems.

Additional iPoints.

New bonuses.

Fresh skill options.

Bunny's ears perked proudly.

"The plan worked!"

Nyxian smirked smugly.

"Of course it did."

Llandra studied the results carefully.

Then slowly smiled.

Interesting.

The system wasn't rewarding repetition alone.

It rewarded:

emotional investment

creativity

novelty

connection

That mattered.

Because it meant the system wasn't simply transactional.

It reacted to sincerity too.

Jax sipped his coffee while watching all four of them compare stat gains excitedly.

"…You know what worries me most?"

Nyxian glanced over.

"What?"

"The fact that all four of you approached this like a military operation."

Nyxian looked offended.

"It WAS a military operation."

Bunny nodded seriously.

"We had strategy meetings."

Zee turned red instantly.

"We really did…"

Jax slowly looked toward the ceiling.

"…I'm dating lunatics."

Nyxian pointed proudly.

"And yet you look happy about it."

He looked around the room again:

sleepy smiles

tangled affection

shared food

comfortable laughter

Then smiled faintly.

"…Yeah," he admitted.

"I really am."

Llandra finished her drink before standing slowly.

"So."

Jax looked up at her.

"You promised me training today."

"That I did."

Nyxian immediately narrowed her eyes suspiciously.

"What kind of training?"

Jax answered calmly.

"Skill refinement."

Nyxian smirked slowly.

"Does this skill refinement involve her pinning you to the floor again?"

Llandra nearly dropped her glass.

Nyxian grinned wider.

"If so…"

She pointed toward herself proudly.

"…put me in coach. I wanna play too."

Bunny burst out laughing immediately.

Zee covered her face with both hands.

Jax sighed deeply into his coffee.

This was his life now.

Somehow—

he wouldn't have traded it for anything.
