Chapter 90 - Chapter 90: Spider-Man Invites the Wolf into the House

Christine Palmer!

She was a well-known surgeon whose superb skills had saved countless lives in complex, delicate operations.

With her blonde hair, blue eyes, fair complexion, and tall figure, she perfectly fit the image of a classic European beauty — the kind that could easily captivate any man at first sight.

Of course, Steve Rogers wasn't surprised just by her appearance or professional reputation.

What did surprise him was that she had once shared a close, ambiguous relationship with Doctor Stephen Strange — more than friends, yet less than lovers.

In Doctor Strange, she was the undisputed female lead. Unfortunately, their story didn't have a happy ending.

Ironically, that uncertain, unfulfilled connection was exactly what Strange needed. He believed emotional attachments only interfered with his surgical precision.

Steve never expected that such a woman would turn out to be one of Maria Hill's closest friends.

While Hill was undergoing her examination, Steve quietly activated EDITH to gather more information about the hospital.

This version of EDITH had been upgraded by Sharon Carter — far more advanced than the previous prototype.

According to the report, the New York branch of Presbyterian Hospital was owned by the DuPont family. It was secretly involved in human and organ trafficking, supplying "special goods" to powerful people and elite members of the consortium.

Steve's expression remained calm, but inside, his mind was churning.

He remembered what Nissa had told him — that vampires had long-standing ties with many wealthy families. The DuPonts were one of them. Their behavior was as twisted as their fortune was vast.

The United States, in many ways, was just a colony of those European powers. Most of its early settlers were European immigrants, while the native tribes had long been erased from their own land.

To believe that consuming human organs could grant "spiritual transcendence" was insanity — yet some people truly believed it.

"The DuPont family?" Steve muttered to himself. "Wait — wasn't that the same family as the vampire who attacked me last time?

You could've stayed out of my way, but you just had to cross me. Fine — I'll show you what justice really means."

He ordered EDITH to covertly hack into the hospital's database to search for any evidence of trafficking.

Moments later, Hill walked out of the examination room.

After greeting Christine, she returned to Steve's side, her tone full of excitement.

"Darling, the baby's fine! I'm just one month along. But I'll need to rest for the next three months."

Pregnancy — it bound them together forever. Without a child, even the most passionate relationship could feel like a temporary partnership, a transaction.

"It's okay," Steve said gently. "Your safety comes first. Focus on the desk work for now. Leave anything else to me — I'll handle it."

Hill smiled softly. "Okay, honey. Let's go home. I can't wait to tell Sharon and Nissa the good news!"

Her voice carried a rare note of playfulness. She couldn't wait to see the envy in their eyes — the unspoken competition between the women was alive and well.

Steve chuckled inwardly. He knew what would happen next — Sharon and Nissa would definitely redouble their efforts.

That evening, Polaris called, inviting Steve to dinner to thank him. But he was too busy and politely declined, asking her to reschedule.

With both Sharon and Nissa around, he already had his hands full.

In Queens, Peter Parker dragged his exhausted body home. Ever since Uncle Ben passed away, Aunt May had been living with him in their small apartment.

"Peter, come eat," Aunt May called from the kitchen.

She wore an apron, and despite her age, she looked radiant — youthful, stylish, and elegant, like a woman in her thirties. Her mature charm and soft skin made her seem untouched by time.

"Okay!" Peter washed his hands and sat down, chatting about his day — especially his encounter with Steve Rogers.

Aunt May listened with a smile, her gentle demeanor that of a patient, caring mother.

"You said Captain America wants to make a movie?" she asked, surprised.

Across the country, Captain America posters adorned war memorials, along with a few documentaries about his life.

Most people thought he had died a hero's death decades ago. It was a shock when he was discovered frozen beneath the Arctic ice — and even more shocking when he woke up, alive and well.

Rumor had it he was suing the military for using his image without permission all those years.

It was even said that his lawyer was blind — which sounded absurd, but somehow made the story even more fascinating.

"Yes! The Captain told me he liked my photography and asked me to help design his movie poster," Peter said proudly. "He even insisted on paying me in cash!"

He couldn't hide his excitement. Working with a living legend — what could be cooler than that? When college started, he couldn't wait to tell his classmates.

Aunt May's curiosity deepened. She had, of course, heard of Captain America, but meeting him in person felt like meeting history itself.

Peter noticed her interest. Ever since Uncle Ben's death, she hadn't been this cheerful.

Suddenly, he had an idea — though one that might "invite the wolf into the house."

"Aunt May, how about I invite the Captain to dinner next time I deliver the poster?"

Aunt May's eyes sparkled. The thought of meeting her idol clearly tempted her — but she hesitated.

"He must be very busy, Peter."

"I don't think so! Mary Jane knows him too — he saved her once. Why don't I ask her to come along too? Leave it to me!"

Peter still adored Mary Jane deeply. First love can make a fool of anyone — even when you know she's trouble.

Aunt May frowned slightly at the mention of Mary Jane. Her instincts were sharp; experience had taught her to read people well.

"Peter," she said gently, "you might want to get to know other girls. Honestly, I don't think Mary Jane is right for you."

Peter looked up in surprise.

Aunt May raised an eyebrow, puzzled by his expression. She tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear — the graceful motion effortlessly charming.

"What's wrong?"

"The Captain said the same thing," Peter blurted out. "Aunt May, how come you and the Captain think alike? Don't tell me you two already know each other?"

"What nonsense!" she said, flustered. "Of course I know him — but he doesn't know me!"

Her face flushed slightly. Was Peter implying she wanted an affair with Captain America?

Well… she wouldn't exactly mind. But who could say what Captain America thought of her?
