"Huh, the fire's out. Did it fail?" Raj asked as he looked down into the darkness below.
Suddenly, a Haunter appeared behind Ash, and Pikachu screamed in fright.
"Pika Pika."
At the same time, Pikachu pointed behind Ash.
"What's wrong, Pikachu?" Ash and Raj both turned around to look.
A Haunter was making funny faces behind them.
However, Raj's system did not react until he deliberately checked the Haunter's combat power. Only then did the system's voice sound.
[Haunter combat power: 950]
"Why didn't you tell me when it appeared? You scared me," Raj complained silently to the system.
[Apologies. The system's Pokémon identification function only activates when you actively request information.]
Since Raj's previous battle with Team Rocket, the system's voice was no longer as cold as before, but it still sounded distant.
"Alright, alright. I just realized how useless you are," Raj muttered inwardly.
"Ash, this is a Ghost-type Pokémon, Haunter," Raj said.
"Okay then, Charmander, get ready," Ash said as he prepared to attack.
The Haunter suddenly disappeared.
In the next moment, it appeared behind Ash again and began teasing him.
Raj simply watched quietly. The Haunter clearly knew Raj had stronger Pokémon and had no intention of provoking him. Besides, interfering too much would not help Ash grow stronger.
The Haunter placed its paw on Ash's shoulder.
Ash did not even turn around and said, "Charmander, stop messing around. Didn't I tell you to go find that Ghost-type Pokémon?"
"Oh stop it," Ash said as he waved his hand and pushed the paw away.
When he looked down and saw a large purple paw, he jumped back in shock.
"Charmander, prepare to attack," Ash said quickly.
Charmander used Flamethrower, but Haunter dodged easily.
At that moment, a chubby Gengar appeared from the ground.
"Oh, there's a Gengar here too," Raj said with interest.
After checking with the system and learning that this Gengar only had a combat power of 1600, Raj quickly lost interest. It was clearly weaker than his own evolved Gengar.
He watched as Haunter picked up a large paper fan and smacked Ash on the head, then hit Charmander as well.
Ash took out his Pokédex and scanned them.
"Haunter. Its body is made of Koffing gas. Everything else is a mystery. Gengar. Everything is a mystery."
No wonder they were Ghost-type Pokémon. Even the Pokédex had very little research data about them. Thinking about this made Raj feel even more confident that catching Gastly earlier had been the right decision.
Raj suddenly noticed Haunter and Gengar standing together opposite them, grinning and fooling around.
Gengar grabbed the paper fan and smacked Haunter on the head. Haunter exaggerated its reaction by widening its eyes and sticking out its tongue, and then Gengar laughed dramatically.
Raj watched them carefully and felt the performance looked familiar, almost like a silent comedy routine.
Honestly, the more he watched, the more it reminded him of classic slapstick humor. It seemed like they were trying to perform comedy.
But Ash obviously did not understand that kind of humor.
His expression darkened slightly.
"Are you two trying to be funny? Because it's not funny at all," Ash said.
Haunter and Gengar immediately looked shocked and nearly hugged each other.
Raj's face stiffened.
"This Ash really is unbelievable. No wonder he doesn't have a girlfriend. They were clearly performing comedy and he just bluntly said it wasn't funny. It would be strange if they followed him after that."
Sure enough, Haunter and Gengar's expressions changed. Black lines appeared across their faces as they collapsed onto the ground in exaggerated disappointment. Somehow, snow even seemed to fall around them as they lay there dramatically.
"Ash, you not laughing just now really hurt them," Raj whispered.
"Ah, is that so?" Ash asked as he finally understood.
Raj felt like hitting him.
Suddenly, the two Ghost-type Pokémon began sinking into the floor.
Ash panicked and rushed forward to stop them.
But how could he stop Ghost-type Pokémon? He ran straight into the floor instead.
At that moment, the lamp above him fell down and hit both Ash and Pikachu.
Stimulated by the impact, Pikachu used Thunderbolt and lit up all the bulbs on the lamp.
Gengar, Haunter, and Gastly appeared together and looked extremely happy as they applauded.
After the lights went out again, Ash and Pikachu still did not wake up. Gengar poked them with a finger, but there was no response.
Gengar and Gastly began to look worried.
Haunter stepped forward and clapped its paws onto their heads, then pulled backward.
Ash's and Pikachu's souls were pulled out of their bodies and floated into the air.
Raj was startled, but it was already too late to stop them.
Ash looked down at his body below and asked nervously what was happening.
Haunter smiled.
"You two are our companions now. Our souls have left our bodies too. What should we do?"
As it spoke, Haunter pulled Ash's soul upward.
"Wow, what a beautiful view," Ash said as he looked at the night sky.
At that moment, Raj's soul also floated out.
After seeing Ash's and Pikachu's souls leave their bodies, Raj released his own Haunter and asked it to bring his soul out as well.
"What is going on, Ash?" Raj asked with a frown.
Just then, Ash's soul floated downward and picked up Misty, lifting her into the air.
Misty screamed in terror.
"Help. There's a ghost. A Ghost-type Pokémon is playing tricks."
Then Ash accidentally dropped her.
She landed on Brock and the two of them fell together.
After that, Ash's and Raj's souls continued floating freely through the tower with Gengar, Haunter, and Gastly while playing happily together.
Soon Haunter brought them to an amusement area inside the tower so they could play together.
"So that's it. You just wanted someone to play with you because staying in this tower all the time is boring, right?" Raj said with a smile.
"But I can't stay here and play with you forever. I still have many opponents to challenge and the dream of becoming the world's number one Pokémon Trainer. So I have to leave here," Ash said firmly.
"Sorry, everyone."
After hearing this, Gengar and the others began crying.
Then they returned Ash's soul to his body, and Raj also returned to normal.
When dawn arrived, Ash and the others walked out of the tower.
"Where are the Ghost-type Pokémon?" Misty asked.
"I've given up on catching them," Ash said with a smile.
"Ash, wait a minute," Raj called out as he ran up from behind.
Behind him followed the wild Haunter.
"He said he had a lot of fun playing with you, so he wants to come with you," Raj said as he pointed at Haunter, who was making funny faces behind him.
