Before Gohan could react, Videl grabbed his arm and dragged him straight toward the courtyard.
Once they reached the yard, she stopped about thirty meters away, planted her feet, took a fighting stance, and said confidently,
"So, Gohan—shall we start now?"
"Sure," Gohan nodded calmly.
"Ha!"
Videl burst forward.
In the blink of an eye, she was right in front of him, fists whipping through the air in rapid succession.
Gohan shifted his body slightly, casually sidestepping every strike.
To an ordinary person, Videl's attacks would have looked fast and fierce.
To Gohan, they were slow—almost crawling.
"Tch!"
Annoyed, Videl snapped her right leg upward in a sharp kick.
Gohan leaned back, and the kick sliced through empty air.
"Videl, you can't beat me," Gohan said lightly. "Why not give up?"
"Don't get cocky!" she shot back. "I'll get stronger and take you down!"
"Oh?" Gohan tilted his head. "Anything else on your mind?"
"Well… there is one thing I want to ask."
"What is it?"
"During the World Martial Arts Tournament finals, your dad appeared in the sky. Was that… was that a trick?"
"A trick?" Gohan froze for a moment.
He didn't need to guess where that idea came from.
"Right!" Videl said firmly. "Normal people can't just fly!"
The moment the words left her mouth—
Gohan slowly lifted off the ground and floated into the air above the courtyard.
Videl's eyes widened.
Her mind went blank.
Science?
Physics?
Newton's laws?
Were they all a lie?
"Ouch!" She pinched her cheek. It hurt.
Not enough to bruise—but enough to confirm this wasn't a dream.
Whoosh…
Tap…
Gohan descended smoothly and landed in front of her.
"Gohan… you can fly too?"
"Yep," Gohan said. "And so can Uncle Krillin and the others."
"Who's Uncle Krillin?" Videl asked.
"The short bald guy from the restaurant," Gohan replied casually. "Same height as me. No hair."
"Oh! Him!"
"So how do you do it?" she asked eagerly.
"It's simple," Gohan said. "We use the Qi in our bodies to fly."
"Qi?"
Gohan nodded and raised his right hand.
A small golden sphere of energy shimmered in his palm.
"That's Qi."
The light faded as he lowered his hand.
Videl stared at him.
"Can you teach me how to fly?"
"No."
"Why not?!"
"No time."
"Come on, Gohan—we're friends!"
"Friends?" Gohan raised an eyebrow. "Since when?"
"Right now!" Videl grinned brightly.
"…"
At that moment, a shadow fell over the courtyard.
A figure descended from the sky.
It was Lagss.
"Master!"
"Lagss."
She nodded, then glanced at Videl.
"Master, who's she?"
"Her name is Videl," Gohan replied.
"Runner-up in the junior division of the World Martial Arts Tournament."
Lagss smiled politely, "I'm Lagss—Gohan's disciple."
"Disciple?!" Videl's eyes went wide.
He was only ten… and already taking students?
"Yes!" Lagss said proudly.
"My master is amazing—no one on Earth can—"
Before she could finish, Gohan clapped a hand over her mouth.
"No one on Earth can what?"
"N-nothing!" Gohan chuckled lightly.
Suspicion flickered across Videl's face.
"Then let me become your disciple too!"
"My disciple?"
"Sure! You're incredible—why wouldn't I?"
Lagss's smile vanished instantly. More disciples meant less of Gohan's attention.
"Well…" Gohan hesitated.
"If you refuse," Videl added sweetly, "I'll come to your house every single day."
"…Fine."
Lagss puffed her cheeks in frustration. She seriously regretted flying to West City today.
"So," Videl said eagerly, "can you teach me how to fly now?"
Gohan looked at her, "What should you call me?"
"Mas… Master."
A faint smile appeared on Gohan's face.
"Now ask again."
"Master, will you teach me how to fly?"
Gohan turned his head slightly.
"Lagss, show her Bukūjutsu."
"M-me?"
"Yes," Gohan replied calmly. "Any problem?"
"N-no!"
With a resigned sigh, Lagss began instructing Videl in Bukūjutsu.
Gohan walked back into the house, hands in his pockets.
Another disciple means another set of legs for errands. Perfect.
Outside—
"Lagss, how old are you?" Videl asked.
"Nine. Why?"
"Just curious. How long have you trained under Gohan?"
"A year."
"A whole year already?!" Videl exclaimed.
"Yeah," Lagss said seriously.
"Don't let his age fool you—he's ridiculously strong."
Videl nodded.
She didn't know exactly how strong.
But she knew one thing he was far stronger than her.
"Videl," Lagss asked, "do you know what Qi is?"
"No idea." She shook her head.
Meanwhile, in a southern city on Earth…
A blonde woman and a handsome young man wearing a red scarf strolled down the street.
They were Android 18 and Android 17.
Behind them walked a tall, silent figure—Android 16.
Since being defeated by Gohan, the three had been traveling from city to city, buying clothes and phones.
The money came from robbing notorious criminal gangs.
Shopping bags hung from their arms.
"Eighteen," Android 17 said lazily, "Earth tech is pretty convenient. You can pay for anything with a phone."
"Yeah," Android 18 replied.
"So what now?"
With Dr. Gero dead, they answered to no one.
They were free.
"Haven't decided."
"Thinking of fighting Goku?"
Android 18 glanced at him.
"Can you even beat Gohan?"
"Goku might not be that strong."
"Not interested," she replied flatly. "Beat Gohan first—then talk."
Android 17 snorted, "When I get stronger, I'll crush that kid."
Three days passed in the blink of an eye.
Under Lagss's guidance, Videl finally managed to levitate—
Just a few inches above the ground. But for her, it was everything.
