Kevin's mind wandered further to that night, getting lost deeper into his memory. He knew the end of his tale was already near, but finding the strength to continue was another story.
That bloody massacre occurred just over a week ago, but it felt as if a lifetime had passed. Perhaps the blur of time was just his way to protect himself.
"I didn't think about anything else... as I ran toward the base." His hands trembled on his knees, unfurling from the tremor of his heart. "I didn't care that I bumped into other zombies."
Kevin knew he couldn't possibly run on foot, so he manipulated the roots to pull himself forward. He did cross paths with zombies that were not part of Rufus' horde, certainly not under his brother's command.
"My brother wasn't there to protect me, but... maybe his scent or power was still on me. They didn't even try to touch me. I pushed the roots to bring me there faster."
