Chapter 126: The Weight of Ruin
The collapse did not come as a single moment.
It unfolded in layers.
Scarlett stood in the center of the penthouse, the soft glow of morning stretching across the marble floor, while the world outside tightened around the truth they had released. There was no turning back now. No softening of impact. The fracture had already spread too far.
Rachel's voice broke the quiet. "Board members are requesting an emergency session."
Julian did not look up from the reports in his hand. "Of course they are."
Scarlett remained still. "How soon."
"Within the hour."
A pause followed.
Scarlett turned slowly. "Then we attend."
Julian lifted his gaze. "You do not have to."
Scarlett met his eyes. "Yes, I do."
There was no hesitation in her voice. No trace of uncertainty. Only a quiet resolve that had taken root somewhere deeper than fear.
Julian studied her for a moment, then gave a single nod. "Then we go together."
