Scarlett stared at him.
That look in his eyes did not fade. Not even for a second.
Guilt.
It sat there, heavy and undeniable, and it made something inside her chest tighten in a way fear never had.
"Say something," she whispered.
Julian exhaled slowly, like the air in his lungs had turned to stone.
"Scarlett…"
"No," she cut in, shaking her head. "Do not start with that tone. Do not try to calm me down. I need the truth."
Her voice trembled at the edges, but she did not look away.
Not this time.
Julian's jaw tightened.
For a moment, it looked like he might still hold back. Like he might choose silence again.
Scarlett felt it before he even spoke.
That choice.
And it broke something in her.
"If you lie to me," she said quietly, "or if you tell me this is not the right time, I swear I will walk out of this penthouse right now."
That got his attention.
His gaze snapped fully to hers, sharp and alert.
"You are not going anywhere."
