Chapter 245 - Rules Of Deep - Monsters - Chapter 245

-Conrad observed the creature in his hands a little bit more.

"Okay."

"I will let you go, but do not throw more rocks at me, would you?" Conrad said as he looked at the eyes of the Eaglesnake and then let it go, which slithered and got away from Conrad as much as it was capable of slithering on the walls.

Conrad looked at the snake as it went far away and then nodded.

"Oh."

"So, after I caught one of them and let it go, others too stopped attacking me."

"So, they have some sort of intelligence," Conrad thought.

He then looked down and then nodded.

"I should go down and reach the 3000 meters deep before finding a small crack on the wall to camp and rest a little bit."

He thought, and then orbs arrived slowly beneath his feet, and then he kept on going down.

In no time, he reached the 3000-meter depth and then felt the area for a moment and found a small cave-like crack in the wall.

The area was not big, just enough for five people, but it was good enough. He was not thinking of camping in this pitch-black darkness anyway.

After meditating for some time and preparing another location's ancient script page, he ate some beef jerky that he prepared and then kept going down.

As he moved, he felt in an instant that the air had changed. It became colder and more threatening; something similar to an ill-intentioned aura from a Nen user covered the whole area.

"Hmm."

Conrad noticed something, and then a second later, he dodged to the right; a human-sized bat attacked him with its claws.

It did not have hands, just five long black claws that are similar to a cat's.

Conrad furrowed his brows.

"Another one..."

The creature then moved back and forth and then launched a second attack. Conrad dodged to the left this time and then hit it from behind with his cane.

"Thwack!!"

The bat-humanoid creature felt the pain and the hit in all of his body and moved further away from Conrad for a moment.

Which gave Conrad a chance to understand and observe the creature.

"A one-and-a-half-meter-tall creature, humanoid, it has almost no legs or too-small ones..."

"All the things about his body show that it is a bat that is overgrown instead of a bat humanoid."

"I feel a slight amount of ennui, but it is nothing big."

"Its speed is impressive, much more than a new nen user as it flies."

Conrad also nodded as he noticed that it lacked any eyes that he could see; he believed it most likely used some sort of echolocation, as the bats do in most cases.

Several seconds later, Conrad felt more Big Bats arriving in his Nen from the cracks of the wall.

"More of them coming," he thought.

In just seconds, the number reached up to fifteen, and then a second later.

"Screech!" With an ear-piercing sound, all the bats started launching towards Conrad.

"I guess I need to kill these."

Conrad's eyes changed as he decided that these are different than those snakes.

When he was throwing rocks, he felt that the rocks were fatal, but the snakes themselves did not have any killing intent or predatory instincts.

These creatures, on the other hand, did really want to kill him, and there was no chance of talking with these bats at all.

He dodged the first attackers and swung his cane one and two times.

"Thump!"

"Thump!"

"Crack!"

With several stings, he hit the creatures on the head and cracked their skulls open.

The cane can be used to kill; it was just not as effective as Blade's part of his ability.

But against these low-level beasts, it is more than enough.

He then moved back and forth to dodge the upcoming attacks from the hurricane of bats and kept on cracking their skulls and spines.

In seven seconds, fifteen of the creatures were killed; Conrad caught one of them as the other ones fell down to the deep.

He then quickly found a small cave and then placed the dead creature on the flat space in the cave.

"Hmmm..."

"In these times, it is said to be that the best explanation is the simplest one," Conrad thought.

"They are just hunters, and I was just prey for them to hunt, or they were just protecting their area."

Conrad thought.

"Either way, I acted in the line of nature."

"Kill or be killed, to hunt or to be hunted." Conrad murmured, and then he took the bat corpse and threw it down to the darkness. He heard its corpse hit several rocks along the walls and then complete silence.

"There is a pattern at this point."

Conrad thought as he placed his hand on his chin.

Every thousand to five hundred meters, the environment changes slightly, and the creatures living there also change. Right now, he saw a five-meter octopus, a smaller three-meter octopus, and an eagle-headed snake with the ability to use some sort of telekinetic power that may have a connection to Nen and aura.

And now, he encountered a huge bat creature that acted like group hunters.

Conrad thought for a moment.

"Hmmm..."

"These bats are deadly to most of the creatures if they were in the wild..."

"But why I think that those rock-throwing telekinetic eaglesnakes would be great at dealing with these..."

"With their ability, shooting these bats would be easy..."

Conrad then thought about something.

"Hmmm."

"Octopuses attacked when Orb wanted to leave."

"Snakes shot rocks at me when I slightly elevated myself with the orb. I did not think much of it, as I was not trying to leave, and it was just several meters..."

"But now..."

"These bats attack me when they see me."

"If they are capable of flying and with their numbers, they are still not leaving the area."

Conrad took a deep breath and smiled.

"Those octopuses, with their size and physical capability and body type, would have no problem against the eaglesnakes at all.

Conrad then laughed.

"I get it!"

"Each type of beast blocks the creature below them from getting up and leaving the 'Deep Point.'"

"They are also best suited to take care of creatures one level below them..."

"It can be said that they are natural predators."

Conrad closed his eyes for a moment and looked down.

"I can test this theory of mine if I go down!"
